Chargers Grab DE English in Round One

The San Diego Chargers added some depth to their defense by selecting Northern Illinois defensive end/linebacker Larry English with the 15th pick. This is a bit of a surprise as many had English going in the late first/early second, but overall it’s not too much of a reach as English had plenty of suitors.

Both the San Diego Union-Tribune and the KGTV 10News are reporting that Linebacker Shaun Phillips is being charged with misdemeanor battery after a confrontation turned violent Sunday night at the Ivy Hotel. From everything I’m hearing and reading, I feel like the Ravens will need a lot of luck now, instead of some luck.  They need the Jets to trade up to get Sanchez, and the Giants plans to trade up not to work.  So now, my main two predictions at #26: Larry English and Kenny Britt.  So much excitement for so many months, and now it could be killed instantly.

The Chargers have tabbed DE/OLB Larry English as their #16 pick. This is interesting because of his small school background and the fact that Everette Brown and Clay Matthews were still available. English is highly productive and has been very impressive in workouts. Not necessarily a reach but surprising none the less with Marrimen and Phillips there. Grade: B-
