Erickson Vandalizes Idaho, takes over Arizona State

After one short year at Idaho, Dennis Erickson tells the Vandals he wants a chance to win a national championship. I guess that's one way to put it as he departs for greener pastures in Arizona, as he takes over for Dirk Koetter as the coach of the Sun Devils. This is a bit of a surprise to me, as Erickson has shown sporadic success in his previous Pac-10 stint at Oregon State. Although he did win a championship with Miami (FL), that was in the late 80's and he is no longer a young coach. Aside from his dismal stint as the coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Erickson is respected as a good coach with good recruiting skills. The question is whether or not he can run a clean program and turn ASU into a contender.

I know some fans up in Moscow that are irate he left after only one season. As a Cougs fan myself, I can only laugh. And personally, I doubt he'll do very well at ASU.

I feel the same way. He really used Idaho as a stepping stone to get back to real college football, and he just doesn't have it left in him. He's gonna be run out of town in ASU, and they will be sorry this is the choice they made.

erickson coached the 49ers with no energy, no emotion. he couldn't even control the players from speaking out in the media about him. he should have been grateful for the chance to step things down a notch and coach a small program into his retirement. instead, he lets down the players and the fans. what a disgrace.

He really didn't even deserve this job, I think ASU was just looking for a name guy to come in and restore some luster to the shaken program. However, Erickson is hardly the man for the job here and he will be retiring soon anyway, or he should.

Erickson is garbage.

Yea, look what he did to the 49ers. Plus, how do you take a coach from Idaho who barely did anything to turn that program around. What has he proven lately?

Erickson may want to win a title, but there is no way the Sun Devils have the talent to do that anytime soon. While it is conceivable that Erickson could turn the program around, I find it highly unlikely.

Especially since he seems to have more baggage than he's worth. Plus he has committment issues (just ask Idaho or Oregon State). I can't figure out why he is held in such high esteem!
