Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - DaJuan Collins rushed for 168 yards and two scores to lead the Toledo Rockets in a 41-17 romp of the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a Mid-American Conference showdown at Rynearson Stadium.
Aaron Opelt also had solid game for Toledo (1-1, 1-0 MAC), throwing for 114 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 8-of-18 pass attempts. Stephen Williams had three reception for 48 yards and two touchdowns, as the Rockets defeated the Eagles for the eighth time in the past nine meetings.
Kyle McMahon passed for 128 yards and an interception on 11-of-18 tosses for EMU (1-2, 0-1). He also had 59 rushing yards on 14 carries. Jacory Stone posted five reception for 72 yards in the loss, while Dwayne Priest toted 13 times for 80 yards.
It took just over three minutes for the scoring to get started, as Collins scampered 19 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 Toledo advantage.
Collins struck again late in the opening quarter, only this time he rumbled four yards for a score.
The Eagles finally got on the board when Terrence Blevins plunged one yard for a touchdown with six minutes left before the half.
Toledo opened the game up in the third quarter, scoring 27-unaswered points for a 41-7 lead. Opelt first threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Robin Bailey early in the frame before hitting Williams from 29 yards out two minutes later. It only took a few more minutes before Opelt and Williams hooked up again, only this time the scoring strike came from 11 yards away. Morgan Williams capped the spurt with a nine-yard touchdown run late in the quarter.
EMU stopped some of the bleeding with a Joe Carithers 30-yard field goal early in the final quarter.
Blevins had a two-yard touchdown run for the Eagles late in the game to cap the scoring.
The Rockets not only limited EMU to just 263 total yards on the day, but they also forced the Eagles into four turnovers.
