Hmm... an article by a Seattle-area columnist dishonoring Sean Taylor and calling the 'Skins out for doing too much to honor him. This might be in every Redskins' locker tomorrow.

I have been reading John McGrath for years. I see how you could misconstrue the article but I think his message was good. All he is saying is that the Redskins seem to be taking the Sean Taylor thing a little far. We all feel for the family and friends of Taylor and will never forget him, however, the winning by 21 talk and the adding him to the starting line-up at this point is all too much. Let's all remember number 21 but not over do it!

I think that was exactly he was trying get to. Just don't overdo it.

I agree with SeattleSports. McGrath didn't say anything wrong. It's disgusting to use Sean's death as an artificial ploy to motivate the players.

If you boil it down, he's accusing the Skins of using Sean Taylor as a lucky charm as part of a "macabre superstition". I think he's right, and I think that's disgusting.

If the players are genuinely using his memory as motivation, I don't see anything wrong with it. Yes, it can be overdone and it might just be a little, but if it helps them win games, let it roll.

thats just wrong, like that one guy said, i hope that writer doesnt come face to face with any redskins players. players consider other players a part of thier families, what he wrote was disrespectful to the 52 players that are on that team...im a seahawks fan since i live in the NW but now i kind of want sean taylor and his boys to make a HURTFUL impression, yeah, terrible isnt it?. how do people get to be writers anyways? obviously they dont need any sort of talent.

win the game, do it in his memory. that's it. but honestly, is it really that guy's place to call them out? it just seems kind of rude.
  • THere may not have been any malice behind his comments, but whether or not that was the case, or if there was any truth to it, there are some things that you just don't say out in the open, especially when it really hasn't been that long since the guy passed away.

Maybe he did the 'Skins a favor by taking their motivation off of Taylor and onto quieting him up.

What an idiot. I found another Seattle guy who brings up how the Redskins are the only team with a racial slur on their helmet and thinks that the wins using Taylor as motivation are "Shallow." Link is on my page...don't know if I should stick it here, I'm new at this.

The Redskins ARE the only team with a racial slur on their helmet.

First of all, columnists are paid to have their words read by as many people as possible - mission accomplished. Secondly, I believe that the context of his final sentence that was to be seen viewed that "he was wasn't lucky, he wasn't charmed, because he's dead". Which is true. I myself am luckier than Sean Taylor because I'm alive and writing these words right now. I think it's honorable that he died defending his child and girlfriend, and appreciate his reasoning behind why he kept a machete and not a gun near for defense near his bed; with all the recent legal troubles involving NFL players and firearms (Tank Johnson, et al), I don't blame him. "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight", I know, but I still understand his reasoning.

now i cannot stand the redskins but you never ever say something like that to a team who has a fallen teammate. It dos not matter whether he was a pro bowler (which he was) or a 7 year 3rd string backup you never EVER say something like that

The bulletin-board material wasn't quite enough. Tough game for the 'Skins. Maybe next year. It was a lot closer than the score indicates.

Until Collins self-destructed, it was close.
