Sports Muffin:
How does the squib kick still exist in Football? I have never played organized football and the only thing I know about play calling is from the years I've played Madden football, but I can't for the life of me figure out how on earth football coaches can think it's smart to squib kick the ball under any circumstances.
Arkansas almost blew their dramatic comeback over LSU because they decided to squib the ball to the Tigers with 21 seconds still on the clock. LSU returned the squib into Arkansas territory while still having 3 timeouts and with a respectable field goal kicker in Colt David. LSU only needed to gain about 10-15 yards for David to have a realistic shot at a field goal. Luckily for the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Tiger offense was unable to move the ball at all and David had to attempt an impossible 63-yard field goal that dropped about 10 yards short. I know the Razorbacks wanted to keep the ball away from the speedy Trindon Holliday, but realistically how often are kickoffs returned for touchdowns? Not very often at all. STOP WITH THE SQUIB KICKING!!!!! The only reasonable time to do it perhaps is when there are only a few seconds on the clock and you know time will expire on any return. That is the ONLY time I can see the squib kick being useful. Hopefully Mike Riley is reading this, cause if the Oregon State Beavers lose their shot at a Rose Bowl berth cause of a Squib kick tomorrow, I'm gonna absolutely lose it. GO BEAVS!!!

I'm a huge LSU fan and I thought for SURE that if that referee didn't get in the way of that pass on first down, than Arkansas would have gaven the game to LSU because of the squib kick.

Falcons beat Bears back in October because of a squib kick, and that kickoff came with only 11 seconds left.
