At the end of the day a win is a win. It doesn't matter the style of the victory or the final score, it's pick up the W and move on. This weekend the Hawkeyes and Crimson Tide were amongst the most notable achievers of survive and advance. The Crimson Tide with the help of two missed field goals by David Lincoln looked to be in control and cruising towards their 8th win of the season but sometimes football takes a few crazy turns. Hesiman hopeful Mark Ingram fumbled the ball away at mid-field to give UT the ball with 3:29 to go. No big deal though, the Crimson Tide still had a 9 point lead with their defense playing soundly as usual. But Jonathan Crompton woke up and with just over 1 minute left Crompton threw a td pass to cut the lead to just 2. No big deal, Tennessee needed to get an onside kick and that almost never works... except this time of course. So with their undefeated season on the line, Bama needed David Lincoln to miss his 3rd field goal of the day and he ...

Tide rising on Alabama winning first Heisman with Ingram

Alabama might say winning its first Heisman Trophy isn't a big deal; it's all about national titles. But with the season Mark Ingram is having, Tony Barnhart says it would be nice to add a new piece of hardware.

Lane Kiffin: “I wasn’t going to let refs lose game for us”

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin said he chose not to run another play before the Volunteers attempted a potential game-winning field goal against Alabama in part because of the penalty disparity between the two teams. Kiffin began milking the clock with about 35 seconds left, and Jonathan Crompton grounded the ball ...

Can Mark Ingram build on his budding Heisman campaign as No. 1 Alabama hosts Tennessee? Or will the Volunteers derail the Crimson Tide's undefeated season? Follow along here.

Gene Menez: Alabama's star RB holds Heisman lead, but just barely

With 99 more rushing yards last week against Tennessee, Alabama workhorse back Mark Ingram remains No. 1 in Gene Menez's Heisman Trophy race. But the gap is steadily closing.

Fundamentals: Protect The Football

Alabama running back Mark Ingram had not fumbled the ball in 322 carries. That by any ones standard is a remarkable accomplishment. Until Saturday in the Tennessee Alabama game...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...

The Hangover Cure: Week 8

Before noting the on-field stuff, take a second to note the classy, dignified remembrance of Jasper Howard from West Virginia on Saturday. You'll feel better.Key Takeaways. Even ugly as sin, a win is a win. Most of the nation's unbeaten teams can win ugly, we know, because they have had to. Florida bludgeons with Tim Tebow and a stingy defense; Alabama does the same with Mark Ingram...

Lane's Boner

Let's start with the conclusion that Lane Kiffin's decision to shackle his offense when they reached the Alabama 27 with 40 second to go was indefensible. Kiffin had a low trajectory kicker who had just been blocked on a 47-yard attempt. A 44-yard field goal isn't a gimme in the NFL (ask Herm Edwards), let alone in college on the road in the rivalry game against the...

'Bama makes it out alive, for the first time (but maybe not the last)

Scroll down or click here to join the Doc's game day live blog, covering every game all day long. Alabama 12, Tennessee 10. Every championship team has to win one like this, when its offense fails to reach the end zone all game, it's outgained two-to-one in the second half, its sure-handed, Heisman-bound tailback fumbles away the clock-killing drive in the final two minutes...

A Numerical Look at the Alabama Crimson Tide

12-10 was the score by which the Tide defeated Tennessee in their annual meeting Saturday and it was not a score that I or anyone would have expected. Both teams had a strong defense, so a good old-fashioned defensive struggle was far from a surprise but few expected Tennessee to stick a bloody knife into the undefeated season of the Crimson Tide. Alabama had control of the game...

Monday Morning Thoughts

• Alabama was outcoached in all phases of the game Saturday, and only the heroic efforts of Terrence Cody prevented a loss that would have ended our perfect season.• Coach Saban called out offensive coordinator Jim McElwain in his post-game comments. Unlike those who want to start Mark Ingram at quarterback, Saban wants his team to throw downfield more, to open up the running...
