New Vikings safety Madieu Williams may miss up to six weeks with a bad neck. Williams was kept out of the preseason opener against Seattle with what were termed neck spasms - I guess the spasms haven't stopped spasming. Williams himself could offer no elaboration on the injury:
I'm not allowed to discuss the condition of my injuries. I think that's something that you've got to talk to Coach [Brad] Childress about, or the trainers.
Maybe he needs one of those neck-supporting pillows. Or a nice rubdown from a Geisha girl.
A six week injury would mean no Williams for the first three games of the regular season. Rookie Tyrell Johnson would presumably move up to the starting spot, although the Vikes have some veteran depth back there with Michael Boulware. Is it too late to get Mike Doss on the horn? Looking for the silver-lining: Well, at least Tyrell will get some experience. Here's the official tally of significant Vikings injuries thus far:
Ray Edwards - back; seems to be okay
Madieu Williams - six weeks with neck
Heath Farwell - season with torn ACL
Jayme Mitchell - season with torn ACL
Pat Williams - bum elbow; should be okay for regular season
Garrett Mills - knee; God knows when he'll play
Bernard Berrian - being held back in practice because of bad groin
Brian Robison - varicose vein issue, should be back in a couple weeks
Tyrell Johnson -abdominal strain of some kind; should be okay

Childress: Training Camp Not Soft
It's been suggested by certain members of the media that the Vikings are going too easy on their players in training camp this year. I couldn't really say because I don't get to see the sessions…I do know that the team has only been in full pads 4 times out of 26 practices, which doesn't seem like a very high percentage. Brad Childress, being the coach, has...
Vikings Looking for Safety Help w/ Williams Down
The Vikings are looking for help at safety now that free-agent pickup Madieu Williams is out with a neck injury. Coach Brad Childress says Williams could be out for an extended period of time. Second-round draft pick Tyrell Johnson started in last Friday's preseason loss to Seattle, but has missed two days of practice this week with an abdominal strain. Johnson is expected...
Tarvaris Jackson constantly nonplussed
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Reports from Vikings camp indicate that quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has accomplished at least two things so far this season – he has managed to fend off Brett Favre, and he has learned a new word.
“I’m a little nonplussed about the whole Favre situation, and how that played out,” Jackson told SSNN. “Not [...]
Leftwich Disses Daunte
New Steelers backup QB Bryon Leftwich had a little message for Daunte Culpepper, who was up for the same job but lost it when he insisted on being given a chance to compete for the starting role:
You have no choice [but to accept a backup role] when you have [Roethlisberger] here. Only a fool would come here believing you have a chance to start when you have him here. They've...
Favre jerseys a hot seller online after trade
The recent Brett Favre trade from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets last week was made to help the Jets make it back to the NFL playoffs, but even if the Jets do not win a game, the move will be well worth it. After announcing the deal, JetsShop.com received so much [...]
