In the eyes of the law, that's exactly what the Duke football program is: replaceable. A Kentucky judge ruled that the Duke team could reasonably be replaced by ANY team in Division I, including what used to be I-AA!!

  • I didn't want Duke to suffer the added embarrassment of having nobody care enough to post a comment.
  • Oh god, look at those cheerleaders..
  • So now when I say "Duke Sucks," there is established legal precedent.
  • This is a crazy legal precedent, give how much $$$ is involved in scheduling these games, and how huge a range the buyouts are... Utah State backed out of a game with Arkansas and paid $50,000. You can't do that to the TN Vols, though: they charge a whopping $500,000 for breaking a contract.

The TN Vols are also playing close to $2 million in 2008 to host teams they can beat, with visitors being paid anywhere from $750,000 to $850,000. If teams want to start backing out on deals like this, they can now use the Duke case as precedent, and potentially screw up the hosting team's schedule.
