I feel good about this game. The past two years I've had to deal with a Cubs playoff loss immediately before a Missouri stomping. Throw in the Cardinals ties there it was like one giant gut punch from the Show Me State. Not this year. This year I can focus all my attention on the Tigers. Thanks, Cubs. Genuinely. I'm relieved. This game suddenly has a lot of variables to consider that didn't exist last week. Foremost for Nebraska fans is Roy Helu. He's supposed to be fine but, as Steve noted, it's not like Pelini hasn't been evasive regarding a player's availability before. The recent precedent for playing with flu hasn't been good either. Gritty, gutty Tebow and McCoy both struggled a bit with the bug and it's been drilled into me that if those two can't do it, it can't be done. Then again, Pelini probably couldn't be less concerned. The other big factor is the weather. Rain of biblical proportions was the forecast early. Now it ...

Breakdown: Nebraska (-3) @ Missouri

We were asked earlier this week about our opinion on tonight’s Missouri-Nebraska game so I figured we’d break it down for our readers. - Fireman Mike Offense Quarterback: Sophomore Blaine Gabbert has been as good as advertised. He has the ability to throw the ball downfield with precision as well as buy time in the pocket with [...]

Indisputable Visual Evidence: Horse Collar

In the waning moments of the 3rd quarter Ndamukong Suh was flagged for a horse collar tackle on Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Instead of facing 3rd and 5, the 15-yard penalty extended Missouri's drive into Nebraska territory. (Thankfully, that drive stalled when Missouri failed to convert on 4th and 20 at the NU 32 yard line.) The question remained (at our watch party...

Point: Incredibly, Missouri hasn't lost anything in the passing game. Not surprisingly, the Tigers were more ground-based through September after losing the school's...

One Key to Success: Relish the @ Sign

At start of the season, football fans and pundits alike knew that success for Nebraska required playing well on the road. Many of the biggest NU games are preceded by an @ sign, meaning: @ Virginia Tech, @ Missouri, @ Kansas. Nebraska showed guts on the road in Blacksburg a few weeks ago, falling just short. Now, it appears that experience is helping prepare them for what is sure...

Secondary Primary for NU

There are many keys to tomorrow night's game between Nebraska and Missouri. From rushing offense to quarterback play or special teams, a person could argue that any or every element of the game is important, and probably be right. One particular area I'm zeroing in on is the play of the Nebraska secondary. Their health, combined with Missouri's personnel style and of...
