The Redshirt Senior:
Where Have The Scarlet Knights Been? After an 1-5 start to last season, Rutgers' season looked over. But then a funny thing happened: veteran quarterback Mike Teel took control of the team with a little bitch-slapping, and the Knights went on to average 43.3 points per game in their last six games, all wins, including the Papajohns.com Bowl win over North Carolina State.Where Are The Scarlet Knights Going? On the surface, it would seem Greg Schiano's club would be taking a step back in 2008 considering Teel and three of the top four pass-catchers from last season are all gone. But this could be one of the biggest surprises for the season for a few reasons 1) the entire offensive line is back 2) the top four rushers from last season are all back .. and most importantly 3) the schedule is a breeze.
Rutgers doesn't have to lave New Jersey for any of its four toughest games (Cincinnati, Pitt, South Florida and West Virginia) and the non-conference schedule, aside from Maryland, is nearly laughable with Howard, FIU, Texas Southern and Army. If this team doesn't enter the season finale with West Virgina with at least eight or nine wins it would be stunning.
The Scarlet Knights may not be the best team in the Big East (see USF) but don't be surprised if its Rutgers and not the Bulls or even the Bearcats or Mountaineers that claim the conference. If you were annoyed over that whole "chopping wood" fascination two years ago, you may want to avoid ESPN this fall.
