Sport psychologists are often called upon to help athletes improve levels of confidence. Specifically, consultants tend to work with a player's self-efficacy, or one's situational self-confidence. Self-efficacy refers to how an athlete feels about himself in certain circumstances, not necessarily his overall feeling in sport. For instance, a basketball player may be extremely confident driving to the hole, yet have lower efficacy on the perimeter (think Derrick Rose). While trying to make a player more efficacious in situations, psych pros may employ various techniques, namely mastery experiences, performance accomplishments, verbal persuasion, emotional feedback, and, for the purpose of this post, vicarious experiences. Watching Kobe Bryant on Saturday, I couldn't help but think about his development, especially about his growth as a player while modeling (or vicariously improving) via Michael Jordan. Kobe has mentioned that he spent countless hours studying MJ. As a you...

Derrick Rose Has An Advantage
The
Boston Celtics are getting a run for their money in the first round of
this year’s NBA Playoffs. They should have learned to take their first
round opponents seriously after barely beating the Hawks in the first
round last year. Maybe it’s just that they did not expect the #1
overall pick from this year’s draft to have such a resounding impact in
his first playoff...

Numerous people have mentioned that Michael Jordan would never allow the Chicago Bulls to lose a game like Thursday night's -- his team would never blow a 13-point third-quarter lead while Jordan made only five of 24 shots.
Bryant shook his head.

Kendrick Perkins Seems To Think The Refs Don't Like The Celtics
So Kendrick "Ice Grill" Perkins seems to think that the referees aren't giving the champions any calls. He recently said that he doesn't think the refs like the C's. It's pretty obviously Perkins doesn't catch too many other games on his down time. He seems oblivious to the national sentiment that the Celtics get and have gotten too many calls since they have been playing with...
Is the Bulls-Celtics Series Fixed?
Yes, it's true. The Chicago-Boston first round series has been one of many revelations. We have seen how easily a Championship team can fall when missing it's best player. We have seen players, whom we thought were at one point irrelevant, step up and show their worth - on both teams. We have seen young players literally evolve into superstars overnight.
We have seen Derrick Rose...

Don't Expect Another Laugher
The result of Game 3 was actually pretty easy to predict. You have a young, emotional team like Chicago coming off two very tight games against the defending champs. They had stolen home court and they were returning to a city, hell... a country, that thought they were going to knock off the big, bad Celtics. The fact that they came out a little too jacked... a little too aggressive...
All Tied Up
What can you say? The Bulls made the plays in the 2nd OT and the Celtics did not.Decimated by injuries, playing in a hostile environment against the Bulls and the refs, the Celtics showed us all why they are the defending champs. Just a gritty, gutsy, ballsy effort by the boys in green.Up 3 with 4.5 seconds left in the first OT, the Celtics elected not to
foul and got burned...
