◊ Penn State has long been respected for its accomplishments and reputation on the football field, centered around the program and university's principle "Success With Honor." The driving force behind that ideal is that winning games isn't the most important thing, but rather, winning the right way. Today, we'll look at a few Nittany Lions that have come to embody "the Penn State way." Wally Triplett - Running Back - 1946-1948 For the football history buff...

It's ok, he's just envious of PSU. And the more he tries to bash PSU, the more envious he looks... plus, how can you take seriously a guy who goes by the name 'meatgoat'?

Take my name as seriously as State College takes drinking laws.
      • Ah yes: logic. How deceptive it can be sometimes... if SC's drinking laws are so lax, then why are so many (not just football players, but they are an obvious example) getting caught and charged with alcohol-related crimes?

Meatgoat may have been a little harsh but you cannot deny all the issues at Penn St. They are calling it Penitentiary State for a reason.

"Since 2002, 46 Penn State football players have faced 163 criminal charges, according to an ESPN analysis of Pennsylvania court records and reports. Twenty-seven players have been convicted of or have pleaded guilty to a combined 45 counts."

Name one prominent person that has called it "Penitentiary State"... dude, even those who aren't PSU homers have pointed to the ESPN OTL report as a one-sided, sensationalist story posing as an "investigation."

Just google penn state off season troube or penn state arrests or anything similar and look at all the headlines. The only folks who don't refer to it as penitentiry state are Penn State homers. Name one prominent person who pointed to that as a one-sided sensationalist story, dude? Look, I pull for Penn State when they aren't playing the Buckeyes. I think what Joe Pa tries to accomplish is fantastic. He is the last of an era of coaches who always trys to do the right thing. With all that being said, take a look at Larry Johnson and all the other issues that come from the school. There are issues at Penn State, more so than some other schools. Don't get me wrong, Penn State hasn't turned into The U or a school like that, but they have their issues.

I'll agree with most of what you said. Most... No, PSU hasn't turned into The U, but seriously, how many schools have? Not too many. There are three classes of programs, the wild (like Miami/Oklahoma in the 80s), the academics (how many problems do the Northwesterns of the world have?), and then EVERYONE ELSE, including Penn State.

You said that there are more issues at Penn State than some other schools. Yes, but MOST schools have more issues that some other schools. Ohio State hasn't been model citizens, nor has USC, or Florida, or Michigan, or Texas, or... you get the idea. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The only reason PSU looked so bad during all of the issues, was because it had built such a reputation for being a straight-edged program. Now, it just fell into the 90 percent of the rest of college football teams.

Again, I'll agree with your thoughts, but not completely. Too bad some others here can't form rational arguments...

Oh, and that +1 was from me. Thanks for arguing your point in a respectful manner...

Oh but PSU has "long been recognized for its accomplishments". What a load of crap.PSU football is an embarrassment to the state of Pennsylvania and that pants-crapping troll that figureheads the whole program should've been fired ten years ago.

Wow, you continue to prove why no one should care what you say... you're everything that makes sports not fun...

This is bullsh*t. I guess it'd be true if you overlook the 167 some charges the program has amassed in the past six years.Winning games isn't the most important thing? Someone better tell that to BlowPa. C'mon dude. PSU is a bunch of thugs.
