Time to Put These Teams On Ice 1. USC (#6 AP, #4 USA Today) USC has no BIG wins, that are impressive at this point in the season. I know they crushed Ohio State. BUT, Ohio State didn't have their star running back, which at this point in the season is proving to be their only every down option. Without him Ohio States offense has looked stagnate, ranking 108th in passing offense and 70th in scoring. USC also looked terrible against Oregon State. Their only saving grace is that the B...

If this season is not a good reason for a playoff, there will not be - - the Big 12 is going to beat up each other and none are going to be in the Championship game.
    • If USC were to play the entire SEC, and actually care - only florida would lose by less than 20.
SEC fans whine so much - that eventually people get sick of it - thus your whole conference ends up in the top 20, and because you cry so much, you stay there. last year you cried about the big 10, this year usc/big 12. Just grow up - stop your whining.
What do you want? do you want your SEC to be the top 12 - well then create your own darn league, and get the &%(*$ out of the NCAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Either stop crying, or just shut up and understand that hey guess what auburn is not the top 5 team you whined about, and vandy is not 13. Your big mouths and tears and constant whining.......
      • You and the other big 12 fans are the only one's that I see whining on these blogs, just like your teams your all a bunch of babies. USC as usual was beaten this year by a nobody, so just keep on crying.
    • Well, you guys have some awesome teams man. You are right, but then again - there have been a lot of gifts give to the big 12 as well right?
You have a lot of likable teams, and 25% of the arrests of the SEC. The thing is you have reputations too. Osborne with his drugs, Switzer with his bs, so you lost some respectability.
You with his title was refreshing, and I was sad when Mizzou lost.
I am from michigan, and despite the fact Urban whined, I must admit I did not think Michigan should have been in the title game - I approved of FL. It just isn't that fun to watch 2 teams from the same conference play again - even if they are the two best (like OK and TX)

As much as I agree with you that the big 12 is by far the best - you know on every single website, there will be one SEC whiner who wants all their teams ranked in the top 15. Thus, an incredible team like TX may lose once, and not be in the title game - but this has been going on for ages right?
  • Georgia and BYU. I know BYU is unbeaten but, their Bowl Division foes are a combined 8-23. Georgia Bowl Division opponents are 12-12.
  • milehighsalute-
I totally agree with you. Now let me add if all the worthless politicians want more money for the schools etc. Why don't they suggest ways for the schools to make money, and not just more taxes. A playoff would help, also the Pros can pay the colleges for players they draft. After all the colleges prepare the players for the pros and should be compensated.
  • I understand your hostility towards USC being ranked so high, but not ranked in the top 10 is demonstrates that your emotions are taking over your thinking. Should USC be in the top 5 or 6 maybe not, but lets not forget while the Big 12 and SEC are considered the best no conference puts up more upsets from unranked teams then the pac 10. Look is USC fortunate to be in this position yes, but look at facts USC, Alabama and Oklahoma are the only teams ranked in the top 10 that have played more than one ranked opponent. While Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Penn State look great this year, lets not disregard what USC has been doing for years; proving us wrong, going into the SEC, (Auburn & Arkansas), ACC (VT & Virginia) and winning.
  • That's it? That's your best shot why USC isn't going anywhere. Since the sorry ash BCS warlords wont' give us a playoff the whole argument of who is best is manufactured. People want to see USC play a big dog and if they win out (which they will) they'll either be in the National Championship or playing some other victim in a big money bowl. If the tv gods want it then the NCAA BCS wienies will give it to them.
  • haha whoever wrote this a complete moron. USC and Georgia would destroy every team behind them. Are you saying that teams like utah, boise st, north carolina, and kansas are better than them. HAHA. Also the only reason Big 12 teams look so good is because they put up a lot of points against terrrrrible defenses. Lets see them put up those numbers against solid SEC defenses. When its all said and done an SEC team will be national champions.
  • I agree with whatyouwant. The Big 12 teams put up big numbers, but Chase Daniel would be shut out against the top 3 SEC teams. No question about it.
  • "eligable" ...is that an English word?
  • i disagree, i see the beavs winning out. Look out their home schedule.
  • Hey FOXSports editors, I am shocked that you would allow a full one half hour partisan political ad to lead off the world series. Fair and Balanced would only be if you aired it one hour before and let McCain have his say one half hour before. I am also disappointed in the too cozy and gentle ways that your anchors and others do not hit hard at Obama, but too quickly smurge any good news from McCain. You do know that the un-Fairness Doctrine will be implimented should this socialist commie lover get elected. Hitler was

  • i'm a uga fun but i can see why people think UGA shouldn't be in the top 10. however its not really anything to worry about for all college fb fans bc georgia has many chances to prove their ranking in the games ahead. if UGA is in the top 10 at the end of the season, no one will be able to deny that they belong there. hope they run the table. GO DAWGS!
oh and by the way BYU was one of the ones who didnt deserve to be there and they proved it tonight. when texas tech loses i will be happy. can we just let texas tech and byu play each other in a bowl? that would be comical. (final score estimation: 63-56)
  • to all the SEC and other conferences. USC is the best team in the NCAA. those other conferences beat up on teams in their conferences, but when i comes out west to play a real team like USC, then they are nothing but a high school football team. everytime you get a ohio state or oklahoma, or michigan, or even LSU for that matter out here to play USC or any other pac 1O TEAM they are nothing but a flash in the pan. USC should have played in the BCS last year and they would have beat LSU or ohio state. all you USC haters need to keep it to yourself. USC has been a dominate force and will continue to be that way for a long time to come.
    • I don't recall, LSU has been out to the PAC 10 and dusted them each time we went. Oregon State-2004 Arizona State-2005 Arizona 2006
  • The SEC, year after year, proves why it is the best conference in the nation. USC plays Arkansas and is excited to get a win. Play Alabama, LSU or Florida, then brag... if you can. As for the Big 12, play a team with real defense and teams like Mizzo and Texas won't be running up and down the field.
Alabama vs. Texas for the national championship.
    • Jeff you gotta be smoking on something funny. Texas will not win out, thats a given. It will be USC and Penn State playing for the championship. Alabama have a real good chance to get there but I believe they will stuble at the end and that will be all she wrote. Just admit it man, playing USC is like playing a NFL team
  • Ok everyone, I am an USC Trojan fan. With them being ranked number for is worng, maybe #6 is right, but to leap Florida from #11 to number 5 is straight up ridiculous. They beat LSU who really is not that good. They had a hard time moving the ball and scoring on an Aurburn team who was trouble scoring. When a Aurburn team can only muster up 3 points to get a win and then get hammered by Miss St, says that LSU is not that good. Everyone knew that Florida would crush LSU and when Florida loses to UGA 1 Nov, should that make UGA jump to #2...NO. Texas will lose to Missouri, but I bet you they will only move up 4 spots. The AP loves the SEC no matter how over hyped they are. USC should and will play for the championship, because they are the best team in college and everyone knows it. Plus they will be the best opponent for any other team that deems themselves the best, all others will be a boring game like last year.
    • To say LSU is not that good is ridiculous. If you would have said less experience you may have a point. If you look at the teams that are in the top 10, all of them have a quaterback that have had at least a full year under their belt. LSU quaterbacks ZERO experience but somehow we are still in the hunt and a major factor in deciding the national championship. So the point I am trying to make is (we are playing the hand that we were dealt) if we were to have a more experienced quarterback, not would the Florida game could have been different, and we could easily be in the #1 spot right now.
  • The Big 12 this year can beat the SEC top to bottom. That may not be the case many years but this year that is an anamoly. They are at least equal. Maybe have a playoff with the 4 best teams in those conferences and let the rest grovel over the Holiday Bowl.
  • To bigdog86, yeah it really was impressive when Texas went out to California in the Rose Bowl and looked like a bunch of high school players. ooops, I forgot, we won.
    • yeah barely, if you remember sc was driving to score.....thats ok....how long had it been since texas was at the top of the heap?....oh yeah think it was in the early 70's.......
  • I will not contest that USC is not a good team. However, for them to lose to an UNRANKED opponent and still remain in the top 10 is ridiculous. UGA loses to a top 10 school and falls to 11. USC might make it to the national championship off rep alone. Strength of schedule? PLEASE...They play a total of 1 ranked opponents on their WHOLE schedule. Mountain West has better competition...
  • Big Dog86, I'd LOVE to get ahold of whatever good it is you're smokin' on. USC is a good, but very overrated team. But to say "everytime you get a ohio state or oklahoma, or michigan, or even LSU for that matter out here to play USC or any other pac 1O TEAM they are nothing but a flash in the pan." was crazy of you. Didn't UGA just give Arizona State (the second best in the WACK-10) the business IN TEMPE? I'ma need USC to beef that schedule up for them to be considered great. What happened to USC when they played UT in the NC? Figured...USC fans are a bunch of Uncle Rico's...Livin' in '82...
  • What am I smoking? Well, let's look at this.
Oregon State beat USC and Vanderbilt would beat Oregon State. Name one other team in the Pac 10 that is any good nationally? USC is NOT an NFL team because if it were, well can you say BEAVERS. USC is good, just not one of the top 2 in the nation. Alabama has only 2 road games remaining... in Knoxville, against the Vols and in Baton Rouge against LSU. Texas may or may not run the table, but if it falters then there is Penn State because the Big 10 is almost as bad as the Pac 10. Alabama's defense is unbelievable and its offense can score from any where on the field. As for Big 12 defenses...well...they don't exist. There is a reason why the media is in love with the SEC... its good from top to bottom and when all is said and done when bowl time roles around...no less than eight and maybe even nine teams will be playing. As for the
Pac 10, maybe four. But again USC fans, please...give up the ghost the run is over and just how many national titles has USC won and how many has Alabama won? hmmmmm
  • Y'all are ragging on the SEC because it's the best. The Gators will come out on top again. One year off is too long. I agree that L.S.U. was not a worthy nat. champ last year. The Gators pushed them all over the field last season until Tebow hit his own man in the head with the football. The Dawgs were much better. You now see what the Gators did to l.s.u. last week. Charles had 22 yards on the ground. Next up, revenge on Knowshawn Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs. Can't wait. Another crystal football for the Mighty, Chompin', Fighting Florida Gators! Go Gators! And the Gators have the best mascots too. Albert and Alberta. Screw Uga whatever no. he is.
  • penn st and usc in championship game. SEC ain't s**t! couple of good teams but mostly a sorry conference
  • Ill clear the air, I am an Ohio State Fan. I think what happened in Pasadena was all skill on behalf of USC, and the loss of a game changer.(beanie) There is no excuse, any team can win any given day, but my biggest issue is the rankings of Said USC team. You dont get man handled by a good yet unranked team in Oregon ST. and then remain in the Top Ten. Period!!!!! I think that is not the right thing to do. If so, why did Ohio St. fall so far? The convincing win over Michigan St. should put us back in the Top Ten for sure, and when we beat Penn St. shouldnt we be the one loss team invited to the National Championship again? after all 1 loss to a Number 1 ranked team is disputable. The SEC is a powerhouse, They have some phenominal teams, as much as I hate to say it, they deserve a little extra votes, considering they beat up on each other. The Big 12 is a bit over rated, should Texas win out, they deserve a National Title Bid against an SEC team, and us buckeyes will see a rematch in USC in Pasadena..
    My point:
    Big 12 - a bit over rated
    SEC - highly under rated
Big 10 - National Opinion is justified
USC and the Pac - 10 : give me a freaking break.
  • Hey Einstein...... Here's a freebie..............

  • Yes I think USC has a great system and team. But I am intrigued by the ignoring of the Mountain West. Even lowly UNLV took Arizona State apart. And BYU getting clobbered by TCU? Maybe TCU is a better team than anyone realized. Here is a question for you. When USC played Utah five years ago what happened? Utah destroyed them. Penn State was next. - - -Oh yes they did! But something done years ago does not count today. My point is this. The Mountain West is a power to be reckoned with. Their teams are for real. Maybe it is time to accept that. Their record against PAC 10 teams of late says much to make my point. As the years pass there is more and more parody in college football. Accept it.
  • BigXIIRocks
The SEC is truly over rated. The only reason everyone thinks the conference is so tough is because of the lack of competition they play in nonconference games. Once they begin conference action, the teams are so pathetic, they can only be portrayed as being good. I would rather watch Division III Ball than the SEC...the Big XII is by far the most powerful conference in the land.
  • The BIG 12 is the leader this year make no mistake about it, media or no media, the media follows population not stats
  • USC against Texas would be the best matchup for the National Championshp. USC has the top defense and TX has a potent offense.
  • usc has won 11 national championships
  • The SEC is the toughest conference in America to play in hands down if you have to compete in it. Why? Because it so many big programs in it and also has 5 active head coaches in it that have won NC's. No other conference is even close to that. Where I'll agree with everyone who is bashing the SEC is that the conference doesn't always produce the best team in Amerca. But, make no mistake about it, after this competition in the regular season and the SEC championship game the team this conference produces is well seasoned to play and defeat anyone if they play their best.
  • hello i have been watching the way the bcs is going as usal ohio state getting a big screw job the buckeys contine you to win an move at snails pace up the polls other teams lose an dont drop down poll very much i get it we lost last two ncaa champoinships i guess bcs says it wont happen again once again so we wii let a group of people who never wore pads decide whos the best these guys coundny find there ass with two hands in the dark jeff buckeye fan
  • you guys have to be kidding me?
USC a real team? they are the most talented team in the fineses pac10. let's keep it real not many teams from the pac10 play any defense. besides, why do all USC players look all world in the pac10 and can barely make any plays in the nfl?
LSU, GEORGIA AND FLORIDA CAN EASILY BEAT ANY PAC10 TEAM AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT UNDERATE THEM LIKE TENNESSE DID CAL A FEW YEARS AGO.
we should NOT allow oklahoma or Ohio State in major game. they will lay their 600th consecutive egg.
  • @BigXIIRocks , you are just a hater. the sec PAYS teams good money for their "tune up" games. they consistently win bowl games.

"The Big 12 this year can beat the SEC top to bottom"

please. texas is the only team that can play againist the sec.
  • This is the exact reason college football needs a playoff system. It is crazy that these weak conferences pile up numbers, while others are destroying each other. Tell me 1 other team in the PAC-10 that is in the top 25.... you can't. USC losing to Oregon State should take them out of consideration until we get down to 2 loss teams. Last year Georgia was the best team at bowl time, but did not play for the championship. I do not even like the S.E.C. but I guarantee you, USC, PENN STATE would not even talked about this year or any year running that schedule. All those S.E.C should play the cupcakes like Washington State and make your numbers look good. mY SON'S 95 lb. football team could take out Wash. St. The BCS is a joke and the Pac-10 is also. I dare USC to do HOME AND HOME with some of the S.E.C. teams. Goergia went to Arizona St. and dismantled the second best team in that division(if that what you can call arizona St) Come on Pete, I would love to see your team step up and play a real schedule. Most teams in the S.E.C. would not lose a game out west, U.S.C is not that good, they play in a weak conference, and have all the sportswriters kissing the back sides. Come get some U.S.C.
    • Recent History Update: USC did play HOME and HOME against the Darren McFadden led Arkansas Razorbacks and won both contests in 2005 and 2006 (W, 70-17 and W, 50-14). USC also opened its 2003 season against the Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown and Jason Campbell Auburn Tigers and shut them out at Jordan-Hare (W, 23-0) in Matt Leinart's QB debut for the Trojans. Although, this was not a HOME and HOME scheduling contest, USC opened the season with an AWAY game in the SEC. Historically, USC has dominated SEC foes both HOME and AWAY and is continuing this trend under Coach Pete Carroll since he took the reins in 2001.
  • BCS sucks anyway. Having followed College Football for the last 4 years since I moved to the US I cannot believe how corrupt it is! Teams play and win and do not get selected, coaches get approached and leave teams whilst their teams are involved, then isn't it about time the BCS Committee stepped in and stopped this? At least then there will be some credability back in the system again...
    • Why is Pete Carroll ducking and dodging and not wanting to come down to the Swamp (Florida) or Death Valley (LSU)? LSU has been trying to get them on the schedule since Saban was the coach here.
  • Arguing over which teams should be ranked where halfway through the season is almost as ridiculous as arguing over which conference is the best. Both arguments are contrived by sports journalists whose livelihood depends on making stories out of fan bias. By the first weekend in December we'll know who the best teams are, and a month later we'll know peaked at the right time and won the NC. Until then you're just feeding the monster with this kind of arguing.
  • First I am a UGA fan. So i am biased toward the SEC, but I do think that the SEC still has something to prove this year. they are not the dominate conference so far. The Big 12 looks like they are very good from top to bottom, but I would like to see them play against a quality defense. USC is an interesting story. Year in and year out they get some of the best recruits, but it seems that they always slip up against an Oregon or Stanford or UCLA. they seem to get bored and then lose a game that they shouldn't. The Big 10 has two good teams this year and thats it. So Penn St plays Ohio State and that is who wins the Big 10 championship. I think that if team has to play an Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, texas Tech, Kansan or play a LSU, FLA, Bama, Georgia, even Vandy week after week then whoever wins those should play for the title (undefeated or one loss). Because if you play one or two top 25 teams then you haven't played a tough schedule. Sometimes the actual playing isn't the hardest part its keeping your players healthy thats more difficult.
  • I believe by the end of the year Florida State will be in the hunt for a BCS bowl game. This is contingent on many factors. One of which includes a HEAVY dose of Antone Smith at running back. He is one of the most dynamic backs in college football. When you consider FSU's porous offensive line and VERY average passing game, it's amazing he is able to do what he does. Why isn't he getting any REAL media attention? As he goes, so goes FSU...this kid is going to make a hell of a pro as you see he gets 90% of his yards between the tackles AND has true top-end speed. Go NOLES!
  • I'm so sick of hearing SEC fans say the BIG 12 doesn't play defense. The SEC defenses wouldn't look so good if it wasn't for their teams complete unwillingness to play offense. I don't see a D in the SEC that TEXAS couldn't drop atleast 40 on. Further more I don't think any team in the SEC wants anything to do with the TEXAS d-line. If you think I'm kidding watch a game the rarely rush more than four and always get pressure. They're second in the nation in sacks and run defense. AS for USC, how can you be ranked so high after being spanked by an unranked team and playing a bunch of nobodys. They might as well play in the WAC or the Mountain West atleast there they would get more competition. TEXAS would have no problem dealing with USC as they did in 2005.
  • As a college football fan, I am a strong advocate for a playoff system. Parity amongst teams is more and more prevalent and undefeated seasons are less and less common amongst the traditional college football powerhouses and the convoluted biases inherent in the polls and passionate fans make a small playoff system the most ideal forum to determine the true national champion. However, I don't see this happening anytime soon as the bowls produce an obscene amount of revenue and college football continues to grow in popularity despite the imperfections inherent in the BCS.
As a USC alumnus and devoted Trojans fan, I am excited for my alma mater's prospects in contending for the BCS National Championship again. However, realistically, I don't anticipate this happening this season. While the early loss to Oregon State hasn't hampered them too badly overall, there are too many other teams that must lose once or twice before USC can be considered for the National Championship Game. While I believe the Trojans can and will win out the remainder of their schedule, they can not depend on other high caliber teams ahead of them in the BCS standings to lose. There is still another half of the season to play and any predictions at this point are premature. I was hoping that the PAC-10 would have been much more competitive this year than it has displayed this season thus far. But, this is the start of another cyclical turn in the PAC-10 with USC remaining at the top with a group of contenders aspiring for greatness in the middle of the pack. If I were to make an early prediction for the National Championship at this time of the season, it would be Texas vs. Penn State based on the remainder of their schedules and probability to remain undefeated.

Good luck to everyone's favorite team... but, don't let your passion and fanaticism for your team overtake your reasoning and logic or you'll just sound like an uninformed zealot.

    FIGHT ON TROJANS!
  • parkerm and author of this article..... First, parker, USC has played a home and home with 2 SEC teams this decade. USC beat Auburn both times, the last game @ Auburn a 23-0 SHUTOUT! Then USC put up 70 points against Arky in 2005 at the Coliseum, and in 2006 (The year that Arky WON the SEC WEST) USC came to Fayetteville and thrashed Arky 50-14. So you see, parkerm, USC has played your "great" SEC and is a spotless 4 wins and ZERO losses. And to the author of this rag blog.....If you were to take USC and pit them against ANY TEAM in the top 10 right now, and play the game on a neutral field, the only team that probably would be favored against USC would be Texas. This shows exactly why USC "SHOULD BE THERE." USC's only loss in their last six straight BCS bowls was the last minute loss to VY Longhorns. USC's 5-1 BCS record shows that they have the talent to beat ANYONE, another reason that they "SHOULD BE THERE".
