CNBC's Darren Rovell reported that Reebok has asked Chad Ocho Cinco (formally Chad Johnson) to buy 100,000 jerseys for $40 per jersey. This equates to roughly 50 million pesos or $4,000,000. It is crazy that Reebok premakes 100k jerseys. What is worse, who in their right mind will buy a C. Johson #85 jersey, when you know it will soon be Ocho Cinco on the back. What would be interesting would be too see someone like Nike or Adidas sign Ocho Cinco, and agree to buy out his jerseys. The res...

Wow - that is going to hurt his touchdown dance prop budget

No one was going to buy the C. Johnson jerseys anyway at this point. That's why they're asking Ocho Cinco to cough up the money. They're hoping he'll buy them, and he's so dumb he might just. Otherwise they're out $4 mil

Yeah but they might actually sell the Ocho Cinco jersey if it gets made - just for the rediculousness of this whole thing from a guy who may no longer be even a top 10 NFL WR
  • Thats an expensive jersey!

If he was a baller, he would write the check and donate all the jerseys to charity. Would save him big on taxes!

I wonder if this is because of his timing. I never heard about any other athletes doing this after a name or number change, but they usually announce it in the offseason proper, before the official uniform outfitter or whatever has a chance to make 100K jerseys of a player that doesn't exist anymore.

Did Reebok instinctively know not to make 100K of Favre's Packer jersey? Did the team have to eat that loss when they traded the player on their team that Reebok cares most about?

This entire thing seems rather illegal, but who knows what kind of crazy stuff is put in the contracts these guys sign.

Brilliant call. I wonder how much Reebok lost on both Jason Taylor and #4....interesting

I think this is ridiculous. There's no question in my mind Reebok will sell wayyyy more "ocho cinco" jerseys than they would sell "johnson" jerseys. They will probably come out in the positive even if Chad doesn't fork up the $4M.
  • Chad Johnson should tell Reebok to go to hell. It's his legal name and if he wants to play with it on, then so be it. He should not be responsible for Reebok overestimating jesey sales and trying to cover it up.

great call. Next thing you know, they will block trades too!

I agree... why would you reproduce that many jersey's on a hope that they sell ? Reebok should jack up the jersey price for OCHO CINCO and give for free the Johnson jersey .. or Auction off the Johnson Jersey and have Chad sign them kind of a happy medium
    • Ronniewoowoo
chad couldn't sign his name 100k times. He would hurt his arm
  • DaBirds
Nike should buy the jerseys and then have exclusive rights to selling Ocho Cinco jerseys... that would stick it to Reebok for sure!
    • Ronniewoowoo
guessing that is not exactly street leagal
  • He should change it again to " I Q ZERO " . Peace
  • ALL THAT MONEY FOR A NAME CHANGE AND PEOPLE STARVING TO DEATH SHAME ON YOU !!!
  • Nike and Adidas can't buy-out the jerseys and print, because Reebok has exclusive rights to selling the players uniforms
