Found August 02, 2008 on Riggo's Rag:
Today Redskins fans the world over proved yet again that we are the best fans in the world.? And don't take my word for it, ESPN anchors Trey Wingo and Tom Jackson agreed that there was more burgundy and gold in the crowd than the colors any other team could?muster for a hall of fame induction. I can't tell you what it means to me to have seen this today.? As a Skins fan who is older than he'd like to admit, my love for this team was formed by Art Monk and Joe Gibbs and Darrell Green.? Seeing them all on the stage (and someone has to explain to me how Russ Grimm wasn't there, too, how is he not in the Hall?) together brought tears to the eyes of someone remembering his youth. I don't think I can really say much of anything intelligent or?meaningful right now.? I'm just too excited.? But today is a day for memories and I thought I'd share a few and then hopefully you guys will write in to talk about your memories of Monk and Green, too. The first play most people remember about Darrell Green is the Monday Night play where he caught Tony Dorsett from behind. That was the night he introduced himself to a national audience.? I actually remember a few years later in the playoffs when Green was called on to return a punt against the Bears and tore his abdominal muscle in the middle of the return and ran the last 30 yards holding his side.? But it wasn't the play itself, it was the fact that he was back the next game, and because of his religion he refused pain killers. How anyone could play at his level with that injury I'll just never know. And the fact that he tried is something I'll never personally forget. As for Monk, to be honest, I don't have a specific memory.? And I personally think that is why it took him so long to get into the hall. Signature plays like the Immaculate Recption and such unduly influence voters. The memory that sticks in my mind the most for Monk is just the referee signaling first down. And that's why it was so great that tonight the crowd provided the memory I was missing.? The 4 minute long standing ovation rewarding honesty, courage, hard work, and integrity over the flash of the modern receivers was proof that at least an intelligent fan base like the one in DC knows the real deal when they see it.? Art Monk made me proud to be a Redskins fan today, and Redskins fans made me proud today, too. More as I think on the meaning of the day, but for now, please comment on your favorite Green/Monk/Redskins moments.? Hail to the Redskins! -DW

Redskins Fire Gibbs, Hire Uncle June

In a stunning move, the Washington Redskins today fired their Hall-of-Fame coach Joe Gibbs and replaced him with mafia figure/beloved TV character Corrado “Junior” Soprano. The decision was announced this afternoon by team owner Daniel Snyder in a press conference. Gibbs himself sat nex...

So, What to Make of Colt Brennan?

In the first professional football of the season, John Madden lavished all over him, the crowd cheered him on, and teammates laughed at and for him. Two touchdown passes, some crafty footwork, and intense staring by Jim Zorn were the highlights of Colt Brennan's debut for the Washington Redskins. If last night's performance was any indication, the D.C. Dreamboat has certainly...

Hall of Famer Art Monk, Redskins Fans And the Ovation to End All Ovations

Big Money's HOF speech was "simply fantastic", but it was the four-minute ovation which preceded it that stole the show in Canton, Ohio. To me, it was the NFL equivalent of Cal Ripken's record-breaking night at Camden Yards...

The Process of Finding a New Coach Continues for the Skins

The Redskins are going through more head coaching candidates before owner Dan Snyder makes his choice to replace Joe Gibbs. There are reports that in addition to interviewing Ron Meeks, the defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts a second time, Snyder might be considering former coach of the...

Snyder treated Williams poorly

The Buffalo News Gregg Williams, Redskins fansÂ' and playersÂ' choice to replace Joe Gibbs, morphed from valued employee into dead weight in less than two weeks, not worthy of even a phone call from Daniel Snyder as a parade of potential replacements passed through the ownerÂ's mansion. Howeve...

Chicago Bears Camp Confidential August 3rd.

I made it up to Bourbanais Sunday for the Bears noon practice. While practice can be boring, training camp gives you access to players, coaches and management, like nothing else. The following lists my thoughts on what I saw and who we talked to. 1. Grossman can make every throw. On every throw the ball seems to launch as if released from catapult. His throws are tight and powerful...

The new Daniel Snyder is Joe Gibbs' legacy

Joe Gibbs never promised you a Super Bowl. The Washington sports icon said he returned to help rebuild the Redskins as a winning organization. Now that he's gone, we will see how good a foundation he built. Gibbs legacy in Washington will be determined by how much he's changed Daniel Snyder's thinking about how to build a roster, says Redskins writer Anthony Brown.

Of Course My Redskins Are Interested In Jay Cutler

Word is that the Redskins are one of the teams that is strongly thinking about trading for QB Jay Cutler. Of course they are. When I heard that the Broncos were looking to deal Cutler away, I just figured that Washington would be in the hunt. The thing is, I don't know how I feel about that. I just spent another season defending current Skins' QB Jason Campbell and it would be hypocritical...

The Four Minutes That Show How Every Redskins Fan Feels About Art Monk

Darrell Green is by far my favorite Football player to ever play the game, but yesterday was all about Art Monk. I think this four minute standing ovation shows exactly how every Football fan feels about his entrance into the Hall....Congrats Art....it's about damn time.

Redskins Hall of Fame Game Blog

'Skins start out looking good recovering an onside kick to kick of the Jim Zorn era. The first drive of the new era ends with me needing a new pair of panties as Campbell starts out 2-2 with a beautiful TD to Randle-El on what looked to be blown coverage. I know I'm not supposed to get excited about a preseason game especially still in the first two minutes but f*ck...

Capping off a tremendous Hall of Fame Weekend, the Colts and Redskins entertained the fans at Fawcett Stadium on Sunday night to a little taste of preseason football, with the Skins outslugging the Colts 30-16.  The story of the back and forth contest was the play of the four Skins QB's, who are all learning [...]
