Top 50 Athletic/Academic Division I Schools

Stack magazine has released its list of the top 50 schools for combined athletic/academic programs, based on the results of the schools' teams in 21 sports and for academic rankings, the US News and World Report. The rankings produced a few surprises, including the school at the top. It was not Stanford, as you might expect from the school ranked number 4 by US News and who dominates the Directors Cup. No, Stanford came in third - the school topping the list was UNC-Chapel Hill, buoyed by number ones in men's and women's basketball and baseball. UNC was followed by Texas, Stanford, UCLA and Duke. It must really eat at the Blue Devils to see UNC number one - especially in a ranking that includes academics.
