Found March 21, 2008 on Undrafted Free Agent: Yardbarker Blogger Network
The NCAA Tournament season is underway. We are all in search of "this year's George Mason," knowing there is no such team in the field. George Mason's run to the Final Four introduced the nation to a cast of new stars, including big man Jai Lewis. Undrafted Free Agent explores Lewis's professional careers (both football and basketball) since his burst onto the national stage.

  • I swear I've been wondering this for the past week. I definitely remember that he was a football prospect (with no college football experience).
  • The football thing didn't last very long. I got the impression that training was a little too hard.
  • It's a lot to ask. I mean, I think that teams were trying to run the Antonio Gates/Tony Gonzales gamble without considering that those guys actually played football.
  • It's probably a little easier making the transition as a pass-catching tight end, too. I couldn't imagine the last time Jai Lewis would have practiced blocking anyone, let alone NFL linemen.
  • He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Xplosion of the CBA (was ABA at the time he was drafted) but he chose to pursue other routes

The Big Break's Blair O'Neal

Blair O'Neal is best compared to the 2005-2006 George Mason Patriots. Going into this contest, little was known of O'Neal. Now, we know she is a great golfer, budding reality TV star(via Golf Channel's The Big Break), model, and Lingerie Bowl QB. In hindsight, it is clear that Blair belongs in the Final Four of the World's Hottest Athlete.

The Final Four Keeps Paying Off For Jim Larranaga

We all knew that Jim Larranaga was going to get a serious payday from George Mason's improbable run to the Final Four in 2006. But who knew that Jim would be hitting Jay-Z territory so soon?

When Being Politically Correct is Incorrect...

Gunston: what is it? Good question. Ever since I have been a student at Mason that has been the mystery around campus. Aren't we the George Mason Patriots? Apparently GMU's verison of a patriot is a furry green blob, who looks like a poorly constructed Sesame Street character. I guess this is supposed to better represent our campus and its vast diversity? Our school just...

Coach L for President

Oh the George Mason University bookstore never stops the creativity, even during the long days of summer. I must say I did enjoy what they came up with on the "Mason Nation wants you" shirts, even though the school's politically incorrectness correctness forced the "Patriot's" face to be colored in green and gold. But today you can find the bookstore&...

Caps Win + Drumline + Free Food = One Great Day

As noted yesterday, the Caps Drumline has been making their presence known at games lately. A quick Google search led me to discover the drumline's identity: "The Mean Green" from George Mason University. (That explains the green drums.) It's almost like Mike Green has his own marching band; he certainly deserves one. Luckily for fans, the drumline will be...

10 Potential Cinderellas: Can Davidson do it again?

In recent years, mid-majors have made a big splash in the NCAA Tournament. Davidson last year, UNLV the year before and of course George Mason's magical Final Four run 2 years ago. Inking in the team from the major conference will earn you a lot of red on your bracket. I will try to identify some potential sleepers before the year starts. Keep an eye on these teams as the year...

While I Was Working A lot happened in the sports world today, and none of it had to do with the Super Bowl! I have heard the feedback and the mob scene at the top of the page has been removed. The fans have spoken! Thank You for participating in the poll question. The 1985 Chicago Bears won this poll; read the following story for a different viewpoint...

NCAA: Little knowns shine big to reach field of 64

Former Gonzaga University assistant basketball coach, Bill Grier, is dancing...literally. In his first season as the head coach of the University of San Diego, he's taken the Toreros to the NCAA tournament, their first since 2003, by beating his former team and perenial powerhouse Gonzaga Bulldogs. Rob Jones and De'Jon Jackson keyed a huge second-half run for the Toreros...

Luckily, there?s a Family Guy

First off, I finally have a name to thank for the "Defense Lives Here" banner. Thanks to the GBI basketball board for drawing my attention to this, as we have Paint Crew Secretary Zach West to thank for the idea of the banner. I love it. My only wish is that I want to be about seven years younger. If this had been there when I was a senior in 2002 I would have gladly been...

Three for Three?

And so tonight, after two consecutive winning days, ISWT shoots for #3 on the college hardwood.. Drexel (5-1) @ George Mason (5-1) In the last three games between these two CAA powerhouses, the home team has won by an average of 14 points. History should definitely repeat itself here. George Mason big men Will Thomas (17.8 ppg) and Folarin Campbell (14.0 ppg), who were both apart...
