I'm sick of is this "poor McNabb hasn't gotten any weapons from the Eagles front office" Did the Eagles attempt to acquire Randy Moss? Yes, but he gave up more money from the Eagles to stay with Brady. Did the Eagles attempt to trade for Tony Gonzalez last year? Yes. They didn't get him because the Chiefs would not listen to any offers. Did the Eagles not draft DeSean Jackson, arguably the best rookie wide receiver out of the class of 2008? Yes, he is amazing. Why is he not being mentioned as a weapon for McNabb and why is the front office not getting any credit for drafting him?

One great draft pick doesn't make up for the entire decade. Who cares that they tried to sign players, they need to figure out a way to get the deal done. Thier not paid to almost sign guys thier job is to make it happen!

Desean Jackson is our best wide receiver on the team, hell of a player. But we need help cause Jackson will become like a steve smith but right now can't be cause he is a rookie and will take time for him to be considered a larry fitz or steve smith. FLY EAGLES FLY
      • phillystrome
i love jackson but he is not larry fitzgerald and will never be fitz may be the greatest receiver in the next generation of NFL WR. but yea i can see jackson being a steve smith he should just add a little more weight
  • brickbreezy
i think of him as a weapon but most people know that one WR wont get it done in todays NFL just like one RB even if he is westbrook wont get it done anymore but i think Jackson will become a steve smith type of player and he might be the number 1 guy next season but players like curtis and avant don't have that cocky edge like most receivers have for years mcnabbs made it to the big games and the one year they made it to the SB he had that go to guy yeah the eagles lost the game but if he had another shot at it who knows
  • souljaturk187
he had a great year but just 4 total touchdowns in the regular season doesnt make you a weapon just like that
this year will be a greater year though
  • He just started we need alot of help to help solidify the Offense for the eagles I knew somewhere that someone will post something about someone on the Eagles Feel Unsecure about being the number one WR the funny thing is that the person that wrote this Article assumes this to be the Case... Well i dont think Desean Jackson Called u and told u that he doesnt feel Appreciated he is just coming off his Rookie Yr for crying out loud NEXT.... Post get more pathetic as the FA comes this Friday and Draft comes in April....

Becuase the DONOVAN LOVERS need to solidify their their own and Dons arguement. Desean was a heck of a weapon in just his rookie season, Kevin Curtis might be the most underrated Eagle. He was terrific in 07 and injured in 08 but when he came back from his injury this season he was good and in the playoffs, he was our Best weapon' yeah yeah he should have caught the 4th and 10 pass he was INTERFERED ON, forget that Don was terrible on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down, but needless to say Curtis was very good in the playoffs. also lets talk weapons some more, yes BWEST was off this season from his normal self, but is he not one of the top3 game changing offensive weapons in football, AW poor DONNY hasn't had BWEST the last 6 seasons--YES HE DID!! DON is a joke and has not earned the right to distinguish who is and who is not a viable weapon. But if he keeps bad mouthing his teammates it makes him look better, like he failed soley because of them. Isn't that nice of him. What a teammate. The recievers as a whole were pretty darn good this year.
  • souljaturk187
nah willydee he's just tired of having an Ex-third string reciever as HIS starting reciever and how year in and year out everybody is asking and dying for that #1 Reciever but when McNabb says something its "why the hell would he say that" and "way to throw your teammate under the bus"
get him a reciever and there will be a superbowl parade in Philly
  • willydee77
Their were off seasons I wanted a stud reciever, but this season our recievers were GOOD and we as a TEAM have more PRESSING NEEDS(tackle,rb,te and maybe de). There is no need to break the bank or trade a draft pick for a reciever. If we can practically steal one then I am for it. Also how many TRUE #1 WRs do you think their actually is in the NFL. Maybe 10, OK theres 32 teams in the League. So how bad off are we actually. If anyone saw a problem with our top 4 recievers this year, I dont know what your seeing. Get me a Tackle, a RB to complement BWEST another TE and a big DE. And by the way if anyone think Housh or Boldin is a game breaking type reciever your being a fool. They are possesion recievers, they will not get their 100 catches here because thats not the way our offense works, so their gonna get their 70 catches for 900 yards, thats the kind of recievers they are. WOW those numbers sound familiar, pretty close to what DJACK and Curtis are gonna give you. Our 2 starters(DJACK and Curtis) are among the fastest recievers in football and as a tandem are probably the fastest starting WRs in the league, Our 3rd down guy(Avant) does everything a #3 needs to do, run good routes, have good hands, break a couple tackles and our 4th guy(Baskett) does what a #4 should do, block a little, catch a little. I actually beleive he is underused. Yeah the other two bums(R.Brown and GLEW) are terrible but 1-4 I think we maych up pretty well around the league.

desean jackson is a great weapon but he is undersized (5'9). we need to bring in a tall physical WR instead of more speed. that is why guys like fitzgerald and burress are so successful because of their size. Other than hank baskett who cant catch a cold and has terrible speed all our recievers are 6'0 and under I can guarentee that if we had someone tall we would be seeing td totals in the 35-40 range, less picks, and over 4000 yards from mcnabb.
    • KillerTalon
Baskett's legs are approximately 4 feet long. When he runs, it just looks like hes slow, but its not the case
  • willydee77
You sure are CRAZY crazyphillyfan: 35-40 TDs, give me a break, hes never been close and never will get close even if he had jerry Rice, Michael Irvin and Lynn Swann. Most of the best QBs in the history of the league dont throw for 35-40 TDs in a season
    • ItsWhatever
a lot get in the lower 30's though.
  • the fact is for desean to great, he needs to have the guy on the other side. Name me one reciever in the history of the NFL that was a perenial great that didn't have a solid receiver on the other side. ie.. swan/stallworth, Rice/taylor, Rice/Owens, Harrison/wayne, Fitzgerald/Boldin, there is always the other guy
    • phillystrome
hoepfully it will soon be Boldin/Jackson lol

Another year of development and Jackson could be as good as any receiver in the league.
    • ItsWhatever
If Randy Moss, and Calvin Johnson retire suddenly.

Thank you for posting this. Our front office has clearly been trying to stack up receivers just like McNabb asked last year.

Kevin Curtis is also a very good receiver. Let's use him.
  • romorules
I'm not here to bash McNabb but if he was able to hit Jackson a couple of times in stride in that NFC championship the Eagles would probably have been in the superbowl. I'm sick and tired of hearing no weapons too. What was T. O? Who is Brian Westbrook? Desean Jackson could be better than both of those two. What a player. I watched McNabb throw behind him and some cases just misthrow. This kid is going to be great!
  • phillyfanpat5
Desean is no doubt going to be great, but we shouldn't be putting all the work on his shoulders. He is just going into his second year and yes, looks to have a promising career. However the problem is Desean isn't going to do anything in the red zone. We need to bring in a bigger bodied reciever or tight end. Adding Housh would then compliment Desean and move Curtis to the slot. We may not NEED another reciever, but it'd be very nice to not have to make an ageing Westbrook and a young Jackson do all the work.
    • romorules
I agree with you phiilyfanpat5. Nice post!
    • phillystrome
100% agree a big physical receiver is all we need
  • phillyfanpat5
    thanks romo

No WRs, free agents or in the draft. For the first time since '04 Philly has a solid corp that is young and talented. Fans are still trying to argue for an addition. Thank christ Banner, Lurie, and Reid dont give into the hype. Take care of the OLine, PLEASE!!!!!
    • phillyphan54
my god, I love this guy....***no homo***...

seriously, our WR corps is one of our strengths, it doesn't matter what anyone says, Big Red and co. know this.
People love to hate on Reggie Brown, but in an offense where he is the 5/6th option, that means that the players in front of him, save for Greg "The Assassin" Lewis, are increadible role players. And that is what we have, not one single great WR, but a bunch of good WRs whose talents come together to make a top 10 offense.
  • Dawks08
hes a sophmore, and he isnt the go to guy...yet
  • its his first year duh!

hes not we just need more
  • phillystrome
jackson is a weapon a great deep threat weapon with speed and good route running i see him being a pro bowl WR some day but WE NEED A BIG PHYSICAL WR and as much as i love jackson he just doesnt have that but other than that hes amazing
  • philly_fanatic
i love desean as a wideout, but he just doesnt score touchdowns, 2 recieving, 1 rushing, 1 punt...4 tds in 16 games thats 1 every 4 games....we need someone else so desean can become better
  • TheNuge81
What we need to do is fix the run game i'm surprised that no one really has talked about this. Our running game was garbage last year compared to the previous 2 years. Our run game needs to be fixed and it will open up the pass if we force teams to put 8 in the box to stop the run that puts the D in man coverage where Desean will be able to burn the defender, get open, and make big plays. Don't get me wrong adding a big time physical WR will help but we need to fix the run game.
  • Dawks08
Eddie Royal BTW was better in stats per game, but McNabb has only had one good receiver his entire career, so trying isn't good enough, where would manning be without Wayne, Harrison, Clark, and Addai? He'd be a backup QB calling plays
    • TheNuge81
ur dumb manning would not be a back up QB
      • ItsWhatever
yeah i agree, although he definitely would have posted all those incredible stats.
  • Tblitz25
No one is discrediting Jackson's potential but right now thats all he his. McNabb is asking for Veteran weapons. What if Jackson get hit with the sophmore slump? Jackson needs to demonstrate that he improves one year to the next. Only time will tell. If Jackson has 75 catches 1200yds and 6 Tds I would be comfortable saying is a a true weapon for McNabb. But he produced in his rookie seasonand he shows potential he has not earned the benefit of the doubt yet.
