Virginia Tech (4-3, 2-1) at No. 14 Clemson (5-1, 2-1) Where: Clemson, SC, Memorial Stadium (81,500) When: Noon The blitz: Even if the Hokies extend the ground game they found in pulling away from Duke last weekend to Saturday at Death Valley they still will have a difficult time pulling off the upset. Clemson is so amazingly potent offensively that if the Tigers can get on the edge and burn VPI a few times getting into the visitor's heads, this could be a rout. Odds are it's a competitive game with Clemson pulling away late. Pick: Clemson, 38-24. Wake Forest (3-3, 1-3) at Virginia (2-5, 0-3) Where: Charlottesville, VA, Scott Stadium (61,500) When: 12:30 p.m. The blitz: It's beginning to look like the Cavaliers may not win again, especially if they can't take care of a struggling Wake team once again missing its best player. UVa must get a breakout performance from quarterback Phillip Sims and its defense apply pressure to Wake' QB Tanner Price. Mistakes will determine the winner. Pick: Wake, 26-23. Boston College (1-5, 0-3) at Georgia Tech (2-4, 1-3) Where: Atlanta, Bobby Dodd Stadium (55,000) When: 3 p.m. The blitz: The Yellow Jackets are better than their record suggests, and the defense has something to prove with former DC Al Groh fired nearly two weeks ago. Expect the defense to swarm and the offense to score almost at will against a reeling BC team. Pick: Georgia Tech, 52-14. N.C. State (4-2, 1-1) at Maryland (4-2, 2-0) Where: College Park, MD, Byrd Stadium (54,100) When: 3:30 p.m. The blitz: N.C. State got a week off after beating then-unbeaten Florida State in a very impressive comeback. Coach Tom O'Brien said he wouldn't let the victory get to his players' heads, and if he achieved that the Wolfpack should emerge with a narrow victory. But, State's problems play into Maryland's hands: It allows too many sacks; turns the ball over; and has penalty issues on offense. The Terrapins are very good defensively and consistent. Joe Vellano and company will make enough plays and give the offense some short fields. Pick: Maryland, 20-16. North Carolina (5-2, 2-1) at Duke (5-2, 2-1) Where: Durham, NC, Wallace Wade Stadium (33,941) When: 7 p.m. The blitz: With the many storylines that will accompany this rare night game between these rivals, it will really come down to one thing: Can Duke stop UNC tailback Giovani Bernard? If so, the Devils have a great chance of winning. If not, and Bernard runs for a bunch of yards, like he has in the only two games this season UNC intently made him the offensive focal point (he gained 262 yards versus Virginia Tech and 177 at Miami in the last two games), Carolina will roll. Pick: UNC, 44-23. No. 12 Florida State (6-1, 3-1) at Miami (4-3, 3-1) Where: Miami Gardens, FL, Sun Life Stadium (74,916) When: 8 p.m. The blitz: Miami has not played well the last two weeks, and even if it is better on Saturday night, FSU's need to put together an excellent road performance will lead to a relatively easy Seminoles' victory. The Noles can run and pass for the same number of yards if achieving balance is a priority. Pick: FSU, 45-16.
