Alex Collins is expected to finally sign with Arkansas on Thursday, but it sounds like the process has been anything but easy for the five-star running back from South Plantation High School in Florida. Collins’ mother, Andrea McDonald, does not want him leaving home, and she has reportedly made life incredibly difficult for him over the past week. On Wednesday, we shared with you this bizarre story about Collins’ mother stealing his letter of intent and running away with it so he couldn’t fax it to Arkansas. Athletes who are under the age of 21 need a parent’s or guardian’s signature, so Collins was unable to officially commit to the Razorbacks on national signing day. But that’s not all. Collins announced that he had chosen Arkansas on Monday. According to The Miami Herald, McDonald went to South Plantation High School on Tuesday to complain to school administrators and coaches after her son made the announcement. “She said she didn’t want to sign,” Collins’ older brother Johnny told The Miami Herald. “I know she preferred him to go to UM. Alex had said he was going to the (the University of Miami), and then all of a sudden he changes his mind. We found out he was going to Arkansas on TV.” Johnny said his mother is “having anxiety” over the decision and that he is just as confused by what transpired on Wednesday as anyone else. McDonald is not the first mother to disagree with her son’s choice of college, but she has certainly taken her concerns a lot further than most of the anxious parents before her.
