Arkansas has hired former University of Washington and USC defensive coordinator Nick Holt to handle its on-campus recruiting, a job formerly handled by the mistress of ex-coach Bobby Petrino.
Holt was the defensive coordinator at Washington from 2009-11 and at Southern California from 2006-08; from 2001-03, he was the linebackers coach at USC when the Trojans won the 2003 national championship. He previously worked with Arkansas coach John L. Smith at Idaho and at Louisville.
''Nick Holt is a tremendous addition to our program,'' Smith said Wednesday. ''He will be able to come in here and fit well within our staff, and he brings a tremendous amount of football knowledge. He is great interacting with student-athletes and truly wants to put them in a position to succeed. I have no doubt Nick will be successful in this role for us.''
The job was held by Jessica Dorrell earlier this year. She resigned after her affair with Petrino came to light following their motorcycle crash, a scandal that also cost him his job.
Holt will organize recruiting for the team, including initial eligibility for each incoming athlete. The former linebacker at the University of Pacific holds a bachelor's degree in political economics.

Two guys to watch all season long
The NCAA football season is upon us, and the only thing more exciting than waiting for week one to arrive is waiting for the preseason awards lists to come out.
This year, the Washington Huskies have two players up for three awards in the preseason.
There could be a fourth depending on how the media portrays QB Keith Price’s performance through...
Keith Price always wears a smile. Even when he was hobbling on one healthy leg, which was the case during most of his first season as Washington's quarterback, he was smiling.
It's how Price gained the nickname ''Teeth Price.''
But ask him about his remarkable sophomore season for the Huskies and his school record for touchdown passes (33), and about leading...
Washington Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian announced today that he has kicked Joshua Perkins and Willis Wilson off the team for violating team rules.
Perkins was a redshirt freshman who had been moved from WR to Hback.
Wilson was a walkon running back from Lakes who was the #4 RB on the depth chart.
When we find out more we'll update things on the blog.
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies suffered more attrition Thursday as two offensive players - walk-on running back Willis Wilson and H-Back/TE Josh Perkins were dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules, the school announced via email. Per the email, neither UW Head Coach Steve Sarkisian nor the University would have any further comment on the matter.
SEATTLE - It was a busy day out at Washington Tuesday as the Huskies took part in a 12-drive scrimmage that went for over two hours. There was plenty to talk about, and we spoke with Justin Wilcox, Keith Heyward, Johnny Nansen, Keith Price, Cody Bruns and Dick Baird about how things went.
SEATTLE - Now that the five days are gone mandated by the NCAA to acclimate to full pads, the Washington Huskies have been raring to hit someone. On Tuesday they got that chance, going 12 series in a full scrimmage without the help of the coaches to guide them.
