The Texas Longhorns are literally and figuratively licking their wounds after their 63-21 thumping at the hands of Oklahoma Saturday. Not only did the Longhorns lose the game, they lose defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat for the season with a torn right pectoral muscle and quarterback David Ash to a bruised left wrist. The good news is the Longhorns (4-2, 1-2 in Big 12) don't have long to dwell on it as they host Baylor Saturday. Texas head coach Mack Brown thinks he team has nowhere to go but up after the lopsided loss. "We got outcoached and outplayed in every form and fashion you have," Brown said. "That's two years in a row and it's unacceptable. Give Oklahoma credit. They played well and we played poorly. We're exactly where we were at this time last year. We're sitting here 4-2. It was a setback. We've made a lot of progress. We feel we're a better team now than we were this time last year. You've got to take the negative and make it a positive and play harder, play better and play tougher." They'll have to do so without the services of Jeffcoat, who already had four sacks this season and six quarterback pressures. Brown said replacing Jeffcoat, who tore his left pectoral muscle in January, will be a tough task. "I really hate it for Jackson," Brown said. "He was playing at such a high level and one of the best defensive ends in the country. He said last night he's upbeat and he'll help us lead. He knows how to rehab so he'll get back and soon as he can and move forward and get ready for a great senior year." Brown said the injury will create more playing time for Cedric Reed and Reggie Wilson, who have combined for 20 tackles this year. He also said the team may consider playing true freshman Shiro Davis. Ash left Saturday's game with what appeared to be a severe injury to his left wrist but Brown said he seems to be fine and that he practiced Sunday night. Ash will be evaluated this week before a decision is made on whether or not he starts against the Bears. Brown said the team has no plans to give freshman Connor Brewer any more reps in practice this week. Junior Case McCoy would likely start if Ash can't play.
