The mother of Auburn fullback Jay Prosch has died after a battle with cancer. Auburn coach Gene Chizik said that Iris Prosch passed away Monday morning, but had no other details. He said Jay Prosch had returned home to Mobile, and he's not sure when the player will return. The Tigers visit Mississippi State on Saturday. Iris Prosch, who lived in Mobile, was diagnosed with in 2011 with glioblastoma multiforme, a grade 4 cancer. Jay Prosch transferred from Illinois to be closer to his mother and received a hardship waiver from the NCAA to play this season. The 6-foot 260-pound Jay Prosch started for the Tigers in the opener against Clemson and cleared the way for several long gains as the lead blocker. ''It's a very, very difficult time for him as you would imagine,'' Chizik said. ''We're trying to all be very respectful of the situation.'' Iris Prosch said in an April e-mail to The Associated Press that ''there really aren't words to express how comforting it is'' to have her son close to home.
