MADISON, Wis. -- Praise has been rolling in this week by the bushel about Wisconsin's dominant running game this season, and you'd be hard-pressed to consider any of it too outlandish given the eye-popping statistical output. Wisconsin ranks third nationally in rushing offense (349.8 yards per game). The Badgers have three tailbacks in the top 50 in rushing yards per game and are one of just two teams with two players averaging more than 100 yards (Melvin Gordon and James White). Gordon, who leads the country in that category (156.0 per game), has even vaulted into the Heisman Trophy discussion after four weeks. And Sports Illustrated suddenly lists the third-year sophomore as a first-round NFL draft pick for 2014. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is among the slack-jawed spectators of the Badgers' stellar duo. "It seems like every year they get if not the same quality back, maybe even a little bit better," Meyer said. "I'm watching this right now and ...

Army Captain surprises daughter at Wisconsin football game

There were plenty of impressive runs at Camp Randall on Saturday as James White and Melvin Gordon combined to rush for 292 yards for the Badgers in a 41-10 rout of Purdue. The most important run of the day, though, had nothing to do with football. The University of Wisconsin was honoring 13-year-old Bella Lund on the field as the recipient of the military family of the game after...

Badgers' Connor Senger looks like Russell Wilson, acts like opposing QBs

MADISON, Wis. -- The two quarterbacks have gone overlooked at various career points because of their height, pigeonholed and disregarded as talented but too short. For that reason, they have carried an even greater desire to prove a quarterback's success is not predicated strictly on a single factor outside of their control. Plenty of other elements exist, too: arm strength...

Badgers appreciate safety Michael Caputo's toughness

MADISON, Wis. -- Ask any of Michael Caputo's teammates or coaches, and the first word used to describe him is tough. It is perhaps his greatest quality on the football field for Wisconsin, where he is unafraid to stick his neck into a play and unleash a bone-rattling hit on any player who squeezes into the secondary. Being tough has served Caputo well in his football career...

Badgers QB Stave benefiting from rolling RBs

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By BENJAMIN WORGULL Associated Press Having the best seat in the house to watch Wisconsin's three running backs weave their way to the end zone, quarterback Joel Stave can't help but acknowledge how Melvin Gordon, James White and Corey Clement have eased some of the offense's burden. Stave also knows it's hard to beat teams when the passing...

Army Captain surprises daughter at Wisconsin Badgers game

US Army Reserves Captain Jamie Renee Lunde came back from duty earlier than anticipated, and the University of Wisconsin helped set up this fantastic reunion between her and her daughter.  If this doesn’t make you tear up then you need to get your head checked. [YouTube]

Settle It: Ohio State vs Wisconsin, who will win this Big Ten battle?

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Wisconsin Badgers football preview and predictions. Who will win this Big Ten battle?

How Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon can win the Heisman

Melvin Gordon might be the most explosive player to ever play in a Wisconsin Badgers uniform. Just think about that for a second as Wisconsin has recently rostered current NFL Superstars like Joe Thomas, J.J. Watt and Russell Wilson. If Gordon keeps doing what he’s doing, he will surely make his case and could make a run at college football’s most prestigious award, the Heisman...

No. 23 Badgers back at it with RBs Gordon, White

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By GENARO C. ARMAS AP Sports Writer They're at it again, those run-crazy Badgers. After another stellar day on the ground for Wisconsin, the partisan discussion floating around Camp Randall Stadium following the 41-10 victory Saturday over Purdue was whether Melvin Gordon and James White formed the best 1-2 backfield punch in the country. ''You...

Gary Andersen: Quick pace of play not a problem

Wisconsin football coach Gary Andersen spoke with the media Tuesday morning on the Big Ten's weekly coaches teleconference ahead of his team's game against Ohio State. Andersen touched on the play of running back Melvin Gordon, linebacker Chris Borland and how Wisconsin intends to prepare for the possibility of facing quarterbacks Braxton Miller and Kenny Guiton. No. 23...

Andersen downplays significance of facing Meyer

MADISON, Wis. -- The last time Gary Andersen and Urban Meyer stood together on the sideline, they were helping Utah polish off a 35-7 Fiesta Bowl victory against Pittsburgh to cap a magical undefeated 2004 season. When the two coaches meet Saturday, one of them will lose for the first time while sharing the same field. No. 23 Wisconsin (3-1) travels to face No. 4 Ohio State (4-0...

5 Things to Watch For: Buckeye Edition

We’re only two days away from the biggest game on the schedule. Win this, and I could conceivably see running the table and returning to the Big Ten Championship game. Lose it, and who knows where the Badgers end up. I’m ready if you are. 1)      Can the Badgers fight off the Buckeyes’ opening punch. I brought this up during the Arizona State game, but there...

Heisman Chase: Week 4

Isn’t it funny how the Buckeye staff is ridiculed by winning 76-0, but NO ONE mentions Louisville or any of the others from last week’s laughing stock of a slate of games? I agree we should NOT be scheduling Florida A&M to get a win and see a cool band, which the latter didn’t even happen because theirs is on probation, but if the media would look at our future scheduling...
