MADISON, Wis. -- When Wisconsin plays host to Northwestern for its homecoming game on Saturday, plenty of talent no doubt will be displayed on the field. But it's the talent that will be watching from the sideline that truly has Badgers fans salivating. Saturday represents arguably the most important day in recent Wisconsin football recruiting history because of the sheer volume of blue-chip prospects traveling to Madison. Chief among that crop are running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif.) and offensive lineman Damien Mama (Bellflower, Calif.) Mixon is a five-star recruit who rushed for 1,443 yards with 21 touchdowns as a junior last season at Freedom High School. He garnered scholarship offers from more than 40 schools and narrowed his list to a top five on his Twitter account in August: Florida, Cal, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Oregon. Mama, meanwhile, is another five-star recruit who is rated as the No. 1 guard in the country for the Class of 2014. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 3...

Conor O'Neill capitalizing on last opportunity with Badgers

MADISON, Wis. -- The epiphany came for Conor O'Neill sometime this spring. He can't recall a specific day, but he can safely cite that general timeframe when the light switch clicked on and he suddenly became one of the most invaluable pieces to Wisconsin's linebacker core. It was then when O'Neill realized his college career would be over after the fall. He didn...

Loaded with quick guards, Badgers will pick up tempo

MADISON, Wis. -- No one will ever mistake the pace of Wisconsin's basketball team for Houston's famed Phi Slama Jama bunch of the 1980s or UNLV's run-and-gun style under Tark the Shark in the early 1990s. In fact, the Badgers' plodding play has represented the complete antithesis of such explosive offenses for years. But before you hit the snooze button on another...

Ryan's hill lives on at Wisconsin

It's about 150 yards and perhaps an 8 percent grade to the top of the hill in Elver Park. To a novice, it looks like it could make a runner winded in seconds. For coach Bo Ryan, it's an offseason conditioning tradition to get the Wisconsin Badgers in shape for the long basketball season, as much a mental exercise as a physical one. This year's hill program finished...
