MADISON, Wis. In the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately culture of Heisman Trophy voting in college football, the stock of top-level candidates fluctuates as frequently as oil prices in the Middle East. Entering last Saturday, for example, the consensus top four contenders appeared to be in no particular order Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden and Alabama running back Trent Richardson.Pundits deemed Luck as the frontrunner for the honor. That is, until his Stanford team lost, 53-30, against Oregon, and he threw two interceptions. Moore represented the darkhorse candidate based on a stellar career that featured 46 wins and just two losses. But a 36-35 defeat against unranked TCU on Saturday derailed his dream season.Richardson's Crimson Tide has already lost, 9-6, against top-ranked LSU. And Weeden's Cowboys, while undefeated, still must face in-state rival Oklahoma, ranked No. 5 in the BCS stan...

Wilson's near-perfect game keeps Wisconsin rolling

(Eds: Stands as 1st Ld-Writethru on state lines to update with quotes, details. With AP Photos.) By DAVE CAMPBELL AP Sports Writer As Wisconsin's lead over Minnesota grew, the Badgers began to realize their record-setting quarterback had a perfect game going. COLLEGE FOOTBALL - TOP 25;Tumultuous week ends with Penn St. loss

STATE COLLEGE , Pa. - Capping the worst week in school history, No. 12 Penn State couldn't overcome a 17-point deficit and was stopped short on a fourth-and-1 late in a 17-14 loss Saturday to No. 19 Nebraska. The outcome was secondary in Happy Valley. A tumultuous chapter that began with the arrest of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky on shocking child sexual abuse...

Pedersen big part of Badgers' red zone success

MADISON, Wis. -- Jacob Pedersen distinctly remembers sitting in the Camp Randall Stadium bleachers before kickoff as a high school recruit three years ago, unsure of his future plans as a college football player. He wasn't the most highly sought after tight end despite being a first-team all-state selection from Menominee, Mich. So when Wisconsin expressed an interest in his...

Badgers offense rates another flawless game

Everything Wisconsin's football team hoped for seemed to fall perfectly into place on Saturday. The Badgers dominated Minnesota, 42-13, at TCF Bank Stadium and received all the help they needed in the race to climb back atop the Leaders Division in the Big Ten. Losses by Penn State and Ohio State now mean that Wisconsin controls its own fate with two regular-season games remaining...

It was a pretty good weekend to be a Badger fan. The Axe is staying home, UW is in the drivers seat for whatever their division is called, the basketball team won, and the hockey team beat #1 Minnesota Friday night. Enjoy watching Montee Ball because he might not be in Madison too much longer. Rewriting the History Books Some points to highlight from Dave Heller's post-game...

Audio: Badgers Begin Illinois Prep

After getting its first true road victory of the season, No.15 Wisconsin prepares for its final road game of the season when the Badgers head to Champaign to face off against Illinois. Coach Bret Bielema and senior quarterback Russell Wilson address the media on Monday.

RED MACHINE

A Hail Mary pass knocked the Wisconsin Badgers out of the national title picture. A 40-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds the following week knocked them on their keister. The one-two gut punch derailed a potential dream season and forced the Badgers to readjust their outlook. Those two weeks, coach Bret Bielema said, felt like an "eternity" as they relived their...

The Heisman Mess...

In the past I’ve done weekly updates to the Heisman discussion, but this year I realized that with the way players come and go it was sort of pointless.  But with the regular season starting to wind down I thought re-visiting the topic was a good idea as the frontrunners are starting to emerge. The problem with the Heisman and this is not new information is, it really doesn...

Wisconsin-Illinois Preview

After back-to-back heartbreaking losses, Wisconsin has regrouped to remain in the hunt for the Big Ten Leaders Division title. Illinois' struggles on the field might be the least of its problems. The No. 15 Badgers look to continue their roll with a third straight victory while trying to hand the reeling Illini a fifth consecutive loss Saturday afternoon in Champaign. Wisconsin...
