Post image for Baylor Completes Undefeated Season, Defeats Notre Dame to Win National Championship

Who can stop Brittney Griner?

The women’s basketball player of the year not only was the most dominant player, but also helped the Baylor Bears reach new heights as they completed an undefeated season, defeating Skylar Diggins and Notre Dame in the National Championship, 80-61.

They become NCAA’s first team to go 40-0, as Griner scored 26 points and 13 rebounds in her amazing performance.

“She’ll go down as one of the greatest post players in the history of the game,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. “I’m so glad she got that ring.”

Griner celebrated like any college champion would: cutting down the nets. Robert Griffin III, who helped Baylor win a bowl game a few months ago along with winning the Heisman trophy, attended the game and also joined the Bears to cut down nets.

Griner helped win it for Mulkey, who was struggling will Bell’s Palsy when she was diagnosed with it during the tournament.

“It meant everything for us to get it for coach,” said Griner. “She felt like she wasn’t there for us, but we told her every second that we could hear here loud and clear, everything she was saying.”

Diggins tried doing all she could, scoring 20 points but it just wasn’t enough. As for the 6’8″ Griner, she will be going on to the next stage of her basketball career as she turns pro.

Congrats to Baylor on a legendary season!
