Perhaps so, but from a pure football standpoint, it’s hard to argue that the Cowboys are a better team than the Tide.
However, just because the BCS got the main event correct doesn’t mean that the 2011 season will be without controversy. In fact, the BCS made arguably its all-time most egregious mistake on Sunday, when the various bowl matchups were finalized and announced.
After the automatic bids were doled out, the Sugar Bowl remained open; because two SEC teams were going to the title game, normal conference ties did not apply. That meant two at-large teams would get to meet in New Orleans.

Beamer making no apologies for Sugar Bowl date
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer is offering no apologies for the No. 17 Hokies date in the Sugar Bowl against Michigan.
The Hokies will play the No. 13 Wolverines on Jan. 3 in Louisiana after the selection committee chose them over No. 8 Boise State and No. 11 Kansas State.

BCS Sugar Bowl: Frank Beamer, The BCS, and The Wu-Tang Clan—Yes, The Wu-Tang Clan
Can someone please explain to me how the Virginia Tech Hokies managed to make it into the Sugar Bowl? I'm sorry, a team that gets pasted by the same team twice shouldn't have the opportunity to play in a BCS game of this caliber and the fact that they are is a joke—and not a funny one.
I don't give a damn if Virginia Tech and Clemson were "just a bad match...

Stop crying over Kansas State, the non-snubbed
More than a decade into the BCS era and I am still amazed at the outrage over who is selected to play in the BCS bowls outside of the Championship Game.
There is a lot of money on the line for sure, but the fact remains that the other bowls are most often a side show to the big one. Unless there is a year without a clear No. 1, the other games don't matter...

Your 2012 Sugar Bowl: Michigan-Virginia Tech
At least it seems that way. When infamous Cam Newton "bag man" troll Danny Sheridan was pushing it earlier in the day it just seemed goofy, but via Stewart Mandel:
