The Big 12 Conference has publicly reprimanded Iowa State coach Paul Rhodes and Texas receiver Mike Davis. The conference reprimanded the two on Saturday following Texas' 31-30 win at Iowa State two days earlier. Rhoads complained about a ruling concerning a near-fumble by Texas' Johnathan Gray late in the game. Iowa State's Jeremiah George grabbed the ball and began running the other way, but officials awarded Texas possession. The Longhorns scored the winning points on the next play. Rhoads says his view ''showed a guy who was not down and our guy with the football.'' Davis' reprimand came after he illegally hit Iowa State defensive back Mike Broomfield in the knees on a third-quarter play. Davis was penalized for a personal foul. Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says Davis broke a rule ''prohibiting physically abusive acts toward an opponent's team members during a contest.''

Texas WR Mike Davis Cheap Shots Iowa State Defensive Back With Dirty Hit to Knee

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Mike Davis delivered a dirty hit to the knee of Iowa State defensive back Deon Broomfield during Thursday’s Big 12 matchup in Ames. Davis, who received a penalty for the hit, was lucky not to be ejected from the game for his egregious lack in judgement, which happened after Longhorns running back Joe Bergeron scored a touchdown to give Texas a 24-20...

Texas WR Mike Davis defends cheap shot against Iowa State on Twitter

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Mike Davis went onTwitter to defend his cheap shot on Iowa State’s Deon Broomfield.

Suspend Mike Davis. Forever.

Most of the focus on last night's screw job in Ames will revolve around the botched call that cost Iowa State the upset, but we need to talk about Mike Davis before he gets lost in the shuffle, because the Longhorns senior receiver dished out the dirtiest hit of the 2013 season last night: How can the NCAA spend an entire offseason writing new rules for targeting to...

UT Mike Davis on Dirty Hit: “If the DB’s loafing, he deserves to get cut”

Last Thursday night against Iowa State, Texas Longhorns WR Mike Davis delivered a dirty hit that should have got him thrown out of the game and suspended. Instead nothing happened and Mack Brown said today that he had been “reprimanded.” Obviously whatever Mack did wasn’t enough because here is what Davis had to say about the hit: Davis on reaction to hit: "It was crazy...

Texas Give Up On This Garrett Gilbert Too Soon?

The  majority of Texas Longhorns fans would probably say no to this question, but I would be willing to bet that a percentage of them are probably thinking yes. Yes, we gave up on Garrett Gilbert too soon. @billestes10/Twitter Gilbert was thrust upon the Longhorns Nation during his freshman season when he entered the BCS National title game in relief of an injured...

Ash to remain out for Texas, McCoy to start against OU

Texas quarterback David Ash won't be making his return against Oklahoma. Case McCoy will start at quarterback against the Sooners because Ash is still suffering from "lingering effects" of a head injury, the school announced on Saturday. McCoy completed 26 of his career-high 45 passes for 244 yards in a 31-30 win over Iowa State on Thursday. He didn't have an...

Texas QB Ash to sit against Oklahoma next weekend

Texas medical staff says quarterback David Ash will not play next week against No. 11 Oklahoma because of lingering effects of a head injury. Ash has missed part or all of the last four games Texas (3-2, 2-0) has played and didn't play in the Longhorns' 31-30 win Thursday night at Iowa State. He was first injured Sept. 7 in the fourth quarter of Texas' 40-21 loss at...

Big 12 issues statement on Iowa State - Texas fumble ruling

We've all seen the play by now. Texas running back Johnathan Gray plows into the line and goes down except he's missing one thing; the football. Iowa State linebacker, Jeremiah George, happened to have it running the other way. The officials ruled Gray was down by contact and after a review, the booth apparently failed to see enough evidence to overturn the call. Well, the...

Iowa State Head Coach Paul Rhoads Goes Off on Crappy Big 12 Officiating

The Texas Longhorns beat the Iowa State Cyclones in a close 31-30 contest Thursday night. From the perspective of Iowa State's Head Coach Paul Rhoads the Longhorns did not earn the win honorably or without a little help. After the game he went off on a pretty nice rant about the officiating, especially the non-fumble call on a key goal line stand. @SBNationGIF/Twitter...
