Last week, Michigan State stymied Denard Robinson and Michigan while Wisconsin predictably racked up their 6th straight lopsided win. This Saturday night two of the Big Ten’s best teams will meet in East Lansing, Michigan.  The game will have Big Ten Championship game implications as both teams are currently favored to win their divisions in the Big Ten. #16 Michigan State, ranked 4th in the FBS in points allowed (10.8), is coming off a signature win against rival Michigan.  In that game, the Spartans held Denard Robinson, one of the most talented playmakers in all of college football, to just 165 total yards en route to a convincing 28-14 win.  Running back Edwin Baker struggled to hold onto the ball but still powered the offense with 167 yards and a touchdown. #6 Wisconsin is coming off another impressive beat down, this time of hapless Indiana.  In the last two games between Wisconsin and Indiana the Badgers have outscored the Hoosiers by a score of 142-27.  Russell Wilson threw...

Top Seven College Football Games To Watch – Week 8

Suspensions due to not passing drug tests? At a major university?? I’m shocked, I tell you…shocked. Yep…and almost immediately the line started dropping for LSU, the nation’s No. 1 team heading into this weekend’s slate of games. Will Auburn capitalize? Lots of folks think they will…oh, they probably won’t win the game, but if you got in early enough, you already have...

Upon Further Review 2011: Offense vs Michigan State

Formation notes: Nothing new save the Denard Jet formation moving back to shotgun. Substitution notes: Almost all Smith at RB, with cameos from Toussaint and Hopkins playing FB when one was needed, whether that was out of the I or in a two-back shotgun set. No Barnum; Mealer came in for Lewan after Gholston judo chopped him off the field for a couple plays. You know about the QB...

Montee Ball sidelined as Sparty rallies in first half

Up 14-0 early against Michigan State, things were going according to plan for Wisconsin, but the second quarter has been all Sparty, who answered with 23 straight points. Badger miscues have been absolutely lethal, as Michigan State has taken advantage of a blocked punt, blocked field goal, a Russell Wilson interception and a safety. All…

A Look At The Numbers Between The Hawkeyes And Hoosiers

Tweet The Iowa Hawkeyes face Indiana this week in their third Big Ten conference game and are heavy favorites to win this game. Iowa has clear advantage in this game on the offensive side of the ball as the Hoosiers have one of the worst defenses in the Big Ten.  Teams have been able to do whatever they want on offense against the Hoosiers because they are having trouble stopping...

Bye Week Arts & Crafts!

So while I was in the middle of a pointless flame war on MGoBlog this week over proper statistical techniques - oh, the things we flame about at MGoBlog! - someone told me my icon should be turned into an MGoShirt. For reference, here is my icon: Now, I don't believe that I should make money off of Denard Robinson's athletic exploits if the man himself cannot. So I'...

On Paper, Upset Potential, Don’t Bother

On Paper #4 Wisconsin vs. #15 Michigan St. The Badger Express rolls on as they face Michigan State. Russell Wilson has been better than advertised. The Spartans were able to put the brakes on Denard Robinson but can they stop a team that is as loaded with talent as Wisconsin? The Wolverines are one dimensional but the Badgers have the full package at QB with talent on the outside...

Spartans' Pat Narduzzi knows Badgers' Russell Wilson presents quite a challenge: 'He's incredible'

Narduzzi's defense slowed Michigan's Denard Robinson last week. The task will be tougher Saturday night against No. 4 Wisconsin.

Badgers, Spartans set for physical showdown

It was Michigan State's most impressive win of 2010 - and by the end of the year it was all but forgotten. The Spartans beat Wisconsin last October, handing the Badgers their only loss of the regular season, but when the two teams finished tied with Ohio State for the Big Ten title, Michigan State was left out of the BCS picture. Instead, Wisconsin won the tiebreaker and went...

Hail Mary drops Badgers from unbeaten ranks

Bret Bielema was beginning to look ahead to overtime, and it was hard to blame the Wisconsin coach. Michigan State was out of field goal range and had time only for a long throw to the end zone. ''It's kind of one of those things where all of the stars have to be aligned for it to happen,'' Bielema said. Well, it happened. The fourth-ranked Badgers fell from...

THG’s Weekly Big Ten Preview

There is an ABUNDANCE of pictures of crying Oklahoma fans on the internet. . WHAT WE LEARNED LAST WEEK Michigan State? Dirty *************. Ohio State? One pass?  You completed one stinking pass? Michigan? I’m guessing this is the start of a trend, not an aberration.  I even used a big word for you! Penn State? Tough fought wins over Indiana and Purdue do not instill confidence...

Last-second Spartan hail mary ends Badgers’ comeback attempt

After a quick start gave the Badgers a 14-0 lead, the Spartans answered with 23 second quarter points and won on a last second hail mary pass, breaking the hearts of Badger fans everywhere. The Spartans ended the Badgers’ bid for an unbeaten season, winning 37-31 and taking control of the Big Ten. Turning Point: With about five minutes left in the second quarter, the Spartans blocked...

Cheap Shots; An Angry Tail Back, Fallacy of Michigan & Lame Notre Dame Fans

This past weekend we once again experienced what has become something of a tradition in college football. Media types desperate to see something resembling football coming out of Ann Arbor hype the school up north to a point where rankings and Heisman talk become vogue. That is until somewhere around the opening of the Big Ten season when someone like Indiana puts...
