Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Taylor Martinez, a four year starter in Lincoln, has seen his college football career end. A polarizing figure in Nebraska, despite the fact that he pretty much rewrote the NU record book for quarterbacks, it’s a very sad way for Martinez’s career to end. A foot issue has hampered Martinez most of the season, as Taylor has appeared in just one game since getting injured in the blowout loss to UCLA on Sept. 14th. According to Nebraska coach Bo Pelini, Taylor Martinez won’t likely return to the field this season. Pelini on possibility of a Taylor Martinez comeback: “I don’t know if the chances are real good.” Casey Martinez, the father of Taylor Martinez, wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Monday night that his son has a “debilitating injury” near the ball of his left foot that could take until February or March to heal fully. He wrote: “Taylor’s injury happened in week one and after several months of rehab we have discovered that the more he does on it the worse that it gets. Very, very unfortunate location and aggravating injury that can’t be toughed out. This is a nightmare way to finish your college career, by getting this kind of injury in the first week of the season, which essentially has cost Taylor his whole senior season as well as many team and personal goals.” Over his four year career, Taylor Martinez was often criticized by fans and media for his unsightly and awkward throwing motion; as well as his tendency to turn the ball over. However, the dual threat QB leaves behind stats that are as impressive as you can find for a Big Ten quarterback. Taylor Martinez amassed 6,591 passing yards and 46 TD passes versus 27 interceptions. He also rushed for 2,858 rushing yards, a 5.2 yards per carry average and 31 TDs. Catch me Tuesdays at 10:30 AM Central talking Illini and Northwestern for KOZN Omaha, Fox Sports Radio Paul M.
