The USC Trojans defense has not bee horrible all season long under defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who is the father of head coach Lane Kiffin. They 49th in the nation in points allowed, which is certainly nothing to boast about. But it is not how the Trojans’ defense has played throughout the season that has people talking in Southern California. It is the last two games that have resulted in USC losses to the Arizona Wildcats and Oregon Ducks.
For those keeping track, the Trojans have allowed a total of 101 points in those two losses, including 62 to the Ducks last Saturday night.
That is guaranteed to get people talking.
The question is, would the head coach of the Trojans ever fire the defensive coordinator at USC, considering that that man is his father?
According to Rich Hammon of The Orange County Register, Kiffin may not be ready to go quite that far just yet. Although he is certainly not exactly defending his father and the defensive schemes at USC either.

According to one L.A.-based sportswriter, because of "an array of distractions and ethics dilemmas," USC A.D. Pat Haden could opt to cut Lane Kiffin loose at season's end.
As they entered the practice facility to set up the field for Thursday morning's workout, USC Coach Lane Kiffin and football student managers declined to comment about the latest controversy surrounding the Trojans.
The Pac-12 Conference reprimanded and fined USC because a student manager intentionally deflated, below NCAA-regulated levels, several balls used by the Trojans...
Southern California: In the matter of the curiously, and criminally (in terms of NCAA rules) deflated footballs and coach with the over-inflated sense of self, the question is not whether we can believe Lane Kiffin – we already know that we cannot – but whether we should here.
On Wednesday USC reported that it had fired a student manager who deflated footballs that the Trojans’...
LOS ANGELES -- If three losses and a two-game losing skid wasn't enough, more air came out of the USC program late Wednesday night when the school announced they were being fined by the Pac-12 Conference for deflating balls in last Saturday's loss to Oregon.
A student manager was seen deflating balls on the Oregon sideline. That manager has since been fired by the program...
LOS ANGELES Inevitably, if you are fortunate enough to have a father you revere live long enough, there comes a time where you have to begin searching for reminders of the man you once knew.
They gradually become obscured by uncertainty, frailty and other diminishing curses of age, which no amount of determination can seem to beat back.
Now, imagine that you are not only this...

USC Coach Lane Kiffin speaks with the media following Wednesday's practice. The No. 21 Trojans are preparing to snap their two-game skid against Arizona State on Saturday.
USC’s Head Coach Lane Kiffin has done some pretty shady stuff during his time as a College Football Head Coach. Whether it’s piling up secondary NCAA violations at Tennessee, or having his backup quarterback wear his kickers’ jersey, he’s built up quite a reputation for himself. This time though, USC is in the headlines for something a Student Manager did.On USC’s website...
It seems that controversy just seems to continue to show up at the doorstep of the USC football program this season. Of course, most of it is Lane Kiffin’s doing, since he foolishly lied about his coaches’ poll vote and even more foolishly briefly banned a reporter from USC’s practices for doing his job.
Add in the fact that visiting teams were banned from walkthroughs at the...
Tweet Whether or not he had anything to do with it, Lane Kiffin is the most entertaining head coach in college football. Per the university’s website, the USC Trojans have been fined by the Pac-12 for under-inflated game balls that were used in USC’s loss to the Oregon Ducks Saturday Nov. 3: Game officials discovered [...]
(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JIM LITKE AP Sports Columnist School officials at Southern California fired a student manager after he admitted taking the air out of some footballs before last week's home game against Oregon.
Good. Now they can resume searching for who took the wind out of Lane Kiffin's sails.
Just kidding about that last part, if only because Kiffin hardly needs...
LOS ANGELES ---When Robert Woods got the call on Monday night, he immediately had to stop what he was doing.
He was in the middle of a Twitter war of words with UCLA freshman defensive back Randall Goforth. Or so he thought.
Apparently Goforth's Twitter account was hacked and sent out a tweet directed to Woods saying "We will beat you guys on November 17th. Believe the...
The two top stories on AL.com, the Internet voice of Alabama, this morning: football stories. Then, you go to the Alabama football page and they’re still talking about the LSU game – on Wednesday. Roll Tide, indeed.
