Talk about being ready to close the door and open a new chapter, the athletic facility at Auburn University has been cleared of any trace of Gene Chizik’s ever having been there: Gene Chizik pictures that have adorned the walls of the facility’s lobby, lounge and entryways, have been removed eight days after Chizik was fired for overseeing the Tigers’3-9 football season. A mural of Chizik raising the 2011 BCS National Championship trophy, which had covered the main elevator, has been scraped off. Other framed images of Chizik leading the Tigers onto the home field, and being showered by a Gatorade bath and embracing tailback Onterio McCalebb following the title victory, are also gone. They’ve been replaced by file photos of campus, Jordan-Hare Stadium and one of the university’s War Eagles. One Chizik photo remained into Monday afternoon: a vertical shot of that Gatorade bath ensconced within glass artwork, overlooking a team lounge outside recruiting and athletic offices. A univers...

Gus Malzahn is the right fit for Auburn

During the course of Auburn’s disastrous 2012 season, the cliché tagline that got thrown around about former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik was as follows: The man never did a damn thing as a head coach without Cam Newton as his quarterback. Between stops at Iowa State and Auburn, Chizik has a record of just 24-33 with anyone other than Newton playing quarterback for him. He was...

Auburn Hires Gus Malzahn

The Gene Chizik era at Auburn peeked in 2010 in his second season as the Tigers posted a 14-0 record and won the National Championship. In the last two years, the Tigers saw decreasing returns and after a 3-9 season, in which they went winless in conference play, they parted ways with Chizik. Review: Bret Bielema/Gus Malzahn

Arkansas and Auburn joined Kentucky today at the new head coach festival, held annually at Pittsburgh (Arkansas State has put in a bid to host as well).  Bret Bielema of Wisconsin and "we don't want to be like the SEC -- in any way, shape, or form" fame agreed to take over at Arkansas and Auburn brought Gus Malzahn back to Lee County after a one-year stint at Arkansas...

Gus Malzahn returns to Auburn

Former Auburn Tigers offensive coordinator and current (now former) Arkansas State Red Wolves head coach Gus Malzahn has been hired to be the next head coach at Auburn.
