The No.11 ranked Wisconsin Badgers are set for their home opener against the San Jose State Spartans this Saturday. The Badgers started the 2010 season with a road win over UNLV 41-21, while the Spartans got rocked by Alabama 48-3. This will be the first of three straight home games for the Badgers, as they look to push their record to 4-0 before entering into Big Ten play. Looking at the college football odds, the oddsmakers are calling for all Badgers in this one, as Wisconsin comes in as 38-point favorites over the Spartans.

Wisconsin used a strong rushing attack to take down the Rebels last Saturday, as 2009 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year John Clay ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Clay wasn’t the only Badger doing work on the ground, as Montee Ball had 79 yards and two touchdowns, and freshman James White added another 59 yards on 11 carries.
Quarterback Scott Tolzien had a costly mistake early in the game, as he threw an interception that went all the way back for a touchdown. Tolzien however finished with pretty respectable numbers, as he completed 15 of his 20 attempts for 197 yards.

The Badgers defense didn’t allow the Rebels much of anything last week, as they gave up just 217 yards of total offense. The Badgers were beat on a couple of nice pass plays for touchdowns, but overall they looked pretty good for the first game of the season.
What a rough start to the season it is for San Jose State, as they had absolutely no chance against the Crimson Tide last week. Now they have to go up against the team that has led the Big 10 in rushing each of the past two seasons.

Last week the Spartans allowed Alabama to rush for 257 yards and pass for an additional 334 yards. The Spartans didn’t have much better luck on offense, as they gained just 175 yards of total offense. While the Badgers defense isn’t quite as strong as what the Crimson Tide send to the field, they are still very capable of shutting down San Jose State this weekend.
Looking at the Odds: There is no question that the Badgers are going to walk out of Camp Randall Stadium 2-0 this week, but whether or not they will cover the 38-point spread is a different story. I am personally not a big fan of betting on teams that have such huge spreads to cover. A couple mistakes early or a couple touchdowns late in the game and the Badgers could win by just 30-points. I feel like the safe bet is to just avoid this game, but if you must bet on the game, I think you have to play the odds and call for the Badgers to cover the monster spread.
