The second best thing that Sports Illustrated is known for after its swimsuit issue (of course) is the curse of being on the magazine’s cover. Placement on the cover of SI is a kiss of death in college football. Since 2005, approximately 65% of schools/players on the cover of the magazine have failed expectations. And with 2012 coming to a close the percentage is likely to rise.
The newest member to the SI cover club is Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein. Kansas State is a refreshing #1 seed this week after Alabama’s loss to Texas A&M. The undefeated Wildcats are not only looking to avoid a loss and earn a spot in the championship game, but also to avoid the SI curse. Klein must continue to perform for his squad and lead them through the rest of the season.
But the stakes are high for this new to the spotlight quarterback, because he is also a frontrunner for the Heisman trophy (the award given to the MVP of college football). Klein has made his mark at his position by...
