The Colorado Buffaloes will get a taste of what it is like to play in the Pac-10 this Saturday, as they head to Memorial Stadium to take on the California Golden Bears. The Buffaloes won’t officially become a member of the Pac-10 until 2012, but it still makes for an interesting matchup this weekend. Looking at the college football odds for this game, the Golden Bears come in 9.5-point favorites over the Buffaloes, with the total currently sitting at 50.5-points.

Colorado opened the 2010 season with an impressive 24-3 victory over in-state rival Colorado State on the road last Saturday. While the offense was solid, it was the defense that carried them to a victory against their archrival, as three different Colorado defenders walked away with an interception in the win. The Buffaloes put a complete stop to the Rams rushing attack, as they allowed just 49 yards on the ground.
On offense wide out Scotty McKnight hauled in six catches for 78 yards and a touchdown on his way to becoming the all-time receptions leader. Junior running back Rodney Stewart carried the ball 16 times for 67 yards, and junior quarterback Tyler Hansen threw for 192 yards with two touchdowns.
The Golden Bears didn’t have much of a challenge to start the season, as they opened up the 2010 season with a 52-3 blowout win over UC Davis. The Bears started the game with 42 unanswered points, including a monster 28-point second quarter.

The top performer for the Bears was junior running back Shane Vereen, who finished with 67 yards and three touchdowns on the ground and another 28 yards and a touchdown receiving. The Bears also got a solid game out of senior quarterback Kevin Riley, who complete 14 of 20 attempts for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Freshman Keenan Allen made his presence felt right away for the Bears, as he hauled in four passes for 120 yards and a score. Junior wide out Marvin Jones also played a big role in the win, as he caught five passes for 81 yards and a score.
The Bears defense allowed just four first downs and 81 yards of total offense against UC Davis, but that was against a much lesser opponent. It will be interesting to see how the defense looks against an improved Colorado offense this weekend.

Looking at the Odds: The key matchup in the game this weekend will be the Colorado defense against the rushing attack of California. If the Bears can slow down Vereen they will have a chance to win this game, but that sounds a lot easier than it really is. I believe you have to take the Golden Bears to cover the 9.5 point spread, as I don’t think Colorado has the fire power on offense to keep up with California. I am calling for a bit of a blowout in this game, as my final score prediction is Colorado 17, California 34.
