Just the other day I wrote a friend about Casteel’s decision to leave and how it was influenced by Holgorsen’s desire to make changes on the defensive coaching staff. I wondered out loud to my friend if I should write it and reasoned it wouldn’t do any good unless Casteel started taking heat for leaving.

In the end the parting between Jeff Casteel and West Virginia was amicable and that’s really all that’s important.
The Mountaineers had known for some time that Casteel wanted out and Dana Holgorsen started extending feelers to possible replacements in October, while at the same time, trying to convince Casteel to stay.
