Tennessee dominated the game for the first six minutes. They forced a three and out from the Oregon offense, shut down the Ducks without any points after giving up a fumble, drove 80 yards in six plays for a 7-0 lead with 9:00 to play in the first quarter. The visitors looked poised and in command, and at that point, the Ducks looked flat and disorganized. A block in the back penalty negated a good return on the opening kickoff by De'Anthony Thomas. Mariota missed awkwardly on his early throws, starting the game 2-8. An illegal procedure penalty stalled the opening drive. Despite getting an early break when Tennessee fumbled on their second offensive play, the Ducks couldn't capitalize on the rip and strip, recovered by Rodney Hardrick. Taking over on the Volunteer 30 they got one first down but stalled when Josh Huff dropped a pass, Mariota threw high to Addison and Maldonado missed wide right from 30 yards. The Vols drove 80 yards in six plays for a 7-0 lead, the big st...

Oregon's Jake Fisher mocks the SEC as being 'super big and scary'

Jake Fisher in 2012. Oregon junior lineman Jake Fisher dipped into the sarcasm closet a little during an interview with CSN Northwest discussing the Ducks' upcoming game against Tennessee. Instead of going just snarky on the Vols' (which would have been easy, considering the past few seasons in Knoxville), he decided to take on the whole flipping conference. Some of...

The Tailgater college football week 3 picks We witnessed some spectacular upsets last week, and it made for some interesting results against the spread. Oregon Has Endless Possibilities On Offense

The Oregon Ducks are dangerous. The lopsided scores so far this season should be enough indication of that. But if I’m a defensive coordinator that has Oregon on the upcoming schedule, what I saw this weekend has me fretting even more. In addition to its speed, Oregon has more versatility than ever before. Quarterback Marcus Mariota has multiple speedy receivers to throw...

Mark Helfrich clarifies the Colt Lyerla "circumstances"

In his weekly Sunday teleconference with the local media, Mark Helfrich clarified his policy regarding disclosing player injury and illness information and why he replied "circumstances" when asked to explain Colt Lyerla's absence from Saturday's game. The Ducks have a team policy of not discussing player injuries or illnesses, the coach said. Bane in pain, and...

TE Mundt makes a splash for No. 2 Oregon

Freshman tight end Johnny Mundt had already impressed his Oregon coaches and teammates with his work ethic. Against Tennessee, he impressed everyone else, too. The Ducks defeated Tennessee 59-14 to remain No. 2 in the Associated Press poll. Mundt...

Oregon Ducks Cheerleaders Are Vital to the Popularity of the Football Team ]

Yes, I wrote the title without chuckling--I'm dead serious. I do believe that the lovely ladies of the Oregon Ducks cheerleading squad are a key component to the popularity of the football team. Why? Because the team plays so many soft opponents (Nichols and Virginia are not even close to being in the same class as the Ducks) that the games are blown out early and kind...

From coaches' comments during the week, here are three keys to the game versus Virginia: Super Mario must be super Scott Frost said this week that Marcus Mariota has been making good decisions on his throws this season, but the Ducks' passing game has been plagued by drops, breakdowns in protection and play calls that didn't work.  On Wednesday he told Rob Moseley...

Inside the highlight tape: A six pack of cool, refreshing big plays in a Frost-brewed win

Scott Frost, settling into his role as Oregon's offensive coordinator, pitched a masterful game yesterday. He worked the corners and blazed letter-high fastballs. He mixed in biting curves and a clever change of pace. He looked like a veteran pitcher in the heat of a pennant race, and the Ducks look ready for the September stretch drive on the eve of a bye week. September 28th...
