DENTON, Texas - North Texas junior running back Lance Dunbar was named as a Doak Walker Award Candidate today as announced by the SMU Athletic Forum. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back. Dunbar is on the list with 48 other of the top running backs from around the nation. Last season Dunbar burst onto the scene with 1,378 yards rushing finishing 15th in the country despite starting only eight games. Dunbar had 17 rushing touchdowns which ranked fifth nationally and his 19 total touchdowns ranked seventh in the nation.Dunbar rushed for 6.9 yards a carry last season which ranked second in the NCAA among backs with at least 200 carries. As a starter Dunbar averaged 147.5 yards a game and scored 15 touchdowns. He rushed for over 200-yards twice last season and was one of only four backs in the nation to have multiple 200-yard rushing games. Dunbar joins Jamario Thomas as the only two running backs at North Texas to ever be nominated
