YPSILANTI, Mich. —- The sound of the thunder rumbled across the Huron River valley under the quick gathering black clouds, which raced across the sky over the friendliest football stadium in the Mid-American Conference and the home of the Eastern Michigan University Rynearson Stadium Saturday night. Officials for Eastern Michigan University cancelled the kick off of the season against Howard University Saturday night because of thunderstorms and tornados in the Ypsilanti vicinity. Eastern Michigan University overcame the violent weather and defeated Howard University 41-9, a victory at home a feeling not felt in Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan University since the last game of the 2008 season against Central Michigan University. The opening for Eastern Michigan University delayed for one more day, the game rescheduled for Sunday September 4, 2011.
