Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson said in an interview that he will be returning to the school after he was suspended for the 2013 Fall semester due to "poor academic judgment." Golson led Notre Dame to a 12-0 regular season and a BCS National Championship Game appearance, in which it was squashed by Alabama. In May, the rising sophomore from Myrtle Beach, S.C. was removed from the Notre Dame football team for the fall semester. He cited "poor academic judgment" in a statement that he released through the school, and still has yet to explain the specific reasoning behind his suspension. "I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term. I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community," Golson wrote in his statement. Last week, Golson spoke on camera for the first time since the suspension to Myrtle Beach television station WDPE while in town to participate in a charity basketball tournament. “I will be returning in the spring, that’s pretty much it,” Golson said, still refusing to comment on why he was suspended. “I’ve been working out, keeping my head up. I’ve had a little adversity but I’ve learned you can’t sit down and just take that, you got to pick yourself back up and keep going forward and continue doing what you were doing and everything is going to work itself out in the end.” Golson will still have two years of eligibility remaining if he returns to the college ranks in 2014. Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly has already named former starting quarterback, the quarterback Golson replaced, junior Tommy Rees as the new starter. After initially saying that there would be a three-way competition between Rees, senior Andrew Hendrix and freshman Malik Zaire, Kelly announced Rees as the definite starter in early June.
