Here is a little Florida Gators football history lesson. Everyone pay attention. In the early 1980s, Wayne Peace led the Gators to respectability. Peace gave way to Kerwin Bell toward the end of the decade.Bell turned the reins over to Shane Matthews, when passed the torch to Danny Wuerfell.Wuerfell became Tim Tebow and Tebow has become Jeff Driskel. Now that I have your attention and all the good quarterbacks who have come through Gainesville in the last 33 years, let’s concentrate on the team Will Muschamp is fielding this year. The Gators turned everyone’s heads by finishing so strong in the SEC last season, to the tune of a Sugar Bowl invitation where Charlie Strong and his Louisville team proved how elite they were. This season, I believe the Gators could be better than last season, but the record will not reflect that. And a schedule in the SEC that won’t be easy. While the team avoids Alabama, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Missouri will give this team fits.Add Miami and FSU to the schedule and things aren’t easy at all for this team.August 31 vs. Toledo: Jeff Driskel had offseason surgery for an appendectomy. It appears it did not affect him since he has been cleared to play. Driskel will show he is serious abut making 2013 a year he could challenge for a Heisman. Gators win. Florida 37-3.September 7 at Miami: This is the highly-anticipated game between in state rivals. How will the Gators' stellar defensive front do againt the Hurricanes' running game. This isn't a close game, but I have to go with the home team. Miami 20-16.September 21 vs. Tennessee: The SEC schedule begins after a week off and loss to Miami. The Volunteers will take the brunt of the punishment. How will the Volunteers react without Tyler Bray behind center? Florida 17-6.September 28 at Kentucky: That’s more like it. The Gators hit on all cylinders in this one. Kentucky is becoming a second home for this team, no matter who the coach happens to be. Florida 52-10.October 5 vs. Arkansas: Another SEC tilt. Could the Razorbacks be a better team than this league thinks? Florida won’t think so. Just more preparation for better competition. Florida 28-17.October 12 at LSU: Huge game for both teams. With the game in Baton Rouge this will be hard to get through for Florida. Any time these two teams hook up, it is a barn burner. LSU prevails. Tigers 34-27.October 19 at Missouri: I think James Franklin is the Heisman darkhorse this season. And the Tigers will be better in their second season in the SEC. Franklin looks good, but he cannot will the team to a win. Florida 23-7.November 2 Georgia: In Jacksonville. All signs in this game point to a Georgia win. But as you know, anything happens in this game. This time, Florida proves to be the better team. Florida 10-9.November 9 vs. Vanderbilt: The Commodores played in a bowl game last season, but that will not be the case this season. With South Carolina on the horizon, this cannot be a trap game. Gators get it together. Florida 34-16.November 16 at South Carolina: The Old Ball Coach plays his old team. The Gamecocks could be the surprise team of the SEC and the country. This season, SC beats Florida and Georgia on its way to the SEC East title. Gamecocks 24-22.November 23 vs. Georgia Southern: A rest for the team before the season finale. The Eagles are a good team, but not good enough to keep up with Florida’s speed. Florida runs away with this one. Florida 48-0.November 30 vs. FSU: This is the hardest game to call. Florida won handily last season. This season won’t be that easy. Look for a dogfight from the start to finish. In the end, Florida wins 28-24.
