There are milestones each team sets for the season. Steve Spurrier made sure the Florida Gators’ goal was to get to Atlanta and the SEC Championship Game. That was goal number one. Following that came the goal of playing for a National Championship. Spurrier’s Gators teams made good on that first goal numerous times, so did Urban Meyer’s squads. In year two, Will Muschamp’s Gators won’t make it to Atlanta, but at 9-1 (7-1 SEC) this season has been a step in the right direction and Florida now sits one victory away from another goal. Notebook: Spurrier chasing history

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier tied Rex Enright for the most wins in school history by a head coach. Spurrier will look to break that next week against Clemson. Also, South Carolina's senior class continued to make history of its own with its 36th win.

Spicy times ahead in Palmetto rivalry

It's the week Clemson and South Carolina fans have waited for all year. And it's never been this big - or this testy. The 12th-ranked Tigers (10-1) and 13th-ranked Gamecocks (9-2) play Saturday at Death Valley - if South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier remembers where the stadium is. Spurrier and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney have spent the past year trading straight-on jabs...

No. 12 South Carolina won't overlook FCS Wofford

South Carolina coaches have a new goal for the Gamecocks' defense against Wofford's option attack. Players won't be turned loose to chase the ball carrier in a controlled frenzy. ''When you play the option, it is about discipline,'' defensive line coach Brad Lawing said. Discipline won't just be a priority for the defense. Coach Steve Spurrier...

The victory gave Steve Spurrier his 64th win in eight seasons with the Gamecocks (9-2), tying him with Rex Enright for most ever in program history. But it wasn't until a 17-point fourth quarter...

Wofford beaten late by No. 12 South Carolina 24-7

Wofford coach Mike Ayers had the same winning expectations coming into No. 12 South Carolina as he does each week in the Southern Conference. His disappointment at losing is also just as huge. Ayers said his Terriers (8-3) came in planning for victory and nearly pulled it off until the Gamecocks' 17-point fourth quarter led to a 24-7 win on Saturday. ''If we don'...
