Even great teams can't overcome five turnovers.  Despite a record-setting performance by USC receiver Marquis Lee (16 for 345 yards and two touchdowns), the Trojans learned that lesson the hard way and watched any hope of a decent postseason evaporate in a mistake riddled loss to the Arizona Wildcats 39-36.Make no mistake, USC wasn't ever fielding a great team, despite some big time players.  A loss to an Andrew Luck-less Stanford proved that weeks ago.  Still, the Trojans appeared scrappy and appeared to have the athletic talent to go much further.  Unfortunately, whether due to poor coaching (Head Coach Lane Kiffin clearly has not figured out how to call the plays) or to lack of discipline (the Trojans were called for 13 penalties for 116 yards), USC couldn't come up big when it really counted. The bottom line, was USC's defense, team saviors until this point, who suddenly couldn't even manage to preserve a 15 point lead at the start of the third quarter, giving up long passing plays to Wildcats quarter back Matt Scott and the rest of the prolific Arizona offense.USC's future looks particularly bleak at this point.  Even a win over the mighty Oregon Ducks next week (Oregon crushed Colorado 70-14) would do little for the Trojans in the way of recognition.  The Rose Bowl isn't what it once was and is a poor substitute for a trip to the BCS Championship.  Should USC make it there by some miracle of Kiffen motivation they would likely need to get past Oregon again in the Pac-12 Championship game where another win, however unlikely, does nothing for their resume. In reality, at this point the Trojans are facing at least a three loss season, if not worse.  Luckily, the John Hancock Bowl doesn't exist anymore and Fresno State seems an unlikely opponent.  But at least the Trojans won't have to travel far to San Francisco for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
