A former Louisville Cardinals football player is suing the university and current head football coach Charlie Strong for an incident stemming from October 2010. The player, Patrick Grant, is claiming that he was asked to cover up an attack on him by two of his teammates in the Louisville football complex. Grant is also suing the school on the grounds that they rescinded his scholarship after Strong promised he would retain it to allow Grant to finish his degree.Grant's attackers, teammates Jacob and Isaac Geffrad, allegedly beat Grant so bad that he required immediate medical attention and "nearly lost his left eye." Grant eventually was forced to give up football after suffering vision problems because of the attack. And as if the alleged beating wasn't bad enough, Grant is also claiming in the lawsuit that he was asked to lie about what transpired.More from CBS Sports:"On the way to the hospital, the team's trainer told Patrick to lie and cover up the fact that his injuries were at the hands of his teammates," the lawsuit states. "Out of fear and desire to play, Patrick lied as instructed, telling the doctor that he was horsing around in the locker room and hit his eye on a locker door."Although Grant returned to the team following the incident, he quit the team amid vision problems shortly thereafter. At that point, Grant claims Strong promised to renew his scholarship through the 2011-12 school year so he could complete a degree in criminal justice. According to the lawsuit, Grant's scholarship was cancelled the following January.
