Former MLB outfielder Jai Miller is trading in his baseball glove for a football helmet instead. The 27-year old has enrolled at the University of Alabama with the intent to play football for the Crimson Tide, according to BamaOnline. Miller reportedly spoke to Alabama head coach Nick Saban recently about the move, and is expected to play safety for the Tide, who are preparing to take on the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday.Miller was a coveted two-sport recruit coming out of high school in 2003. He originally committed to Stanford, spurning offers from Alabama and Auburn among other schools, before eventually opting to pursue a career in professional baseball. The 6-foot-2 athlete was taken by the Marlins in the fourth round of the 2003 MLB Draft. He has since spent time in the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Kansas City Royals organization after being placed on waivers by the Marlins in April 2010. He was granted free agency by the A's last October.Miller saw action in just 28 major league games throughout his career. However, he batted .239 with 137 HR, 477 RBI, and 125 SB in parts of 10 minor league seasons."I think the desire was there on both sides to get him back into football and see what he's capable of doing," Miller's brother-in-law Matthew Elliot said. "If the opportunity is there for him to play professional ball, then the best situation for him would be to play for one of the best coaches in the game and that would be Coach Saban on the defensive side." Miller was rated as a three-star recruit from both Rivals and Scout back in '03. He hails from Selma, Ala.Via AL.com.
