TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida State tight end Kevin Haplea suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during offseason workouts and he will miss the 2013 season. Haplea played in 13 games as a junior for the Seminoles in 2012, excelling as a blocker and catching three passes for 15 yards (including a 1-yard touchdown against South Florida). He also played on special teams. He has not taken a redshirt year, so Haplea can return for his senior season in 2014. Haplea transferred from Penn State in August, but he did not have to sit out a year because the NCAA waived the transfer rules for any Nittany Lions that wished to attend school elsewhere. Hes a tough guy and extremely hard worker who will get through this and come back stronger, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. Florida State will be limited at tight end in 2013. Junior Nick OLeary is the projected starter and he will be backed up by sophomore Christo Kourtzidis, who had shoulder surgery in April but is expected to return by the start of preseason practice in August.
