This was supposed to be showdown Saturday, the night when annual powers Florida and LSU met for Southeastern Conference supremacy. But a surprise happened on the way to Baton Rouge. Florida stumbled against Auburn last Saturday in a stunning 20-17 loss at the The Swamp, the first home loss in the Urban Meyer era. So now, showdown Saturday becomes survival Saturday. If No. 9 Florida is to have any chance to defend its BCS national championship, it must upset No. 1 LSU in hostile territory.
