University of Georgia football player Ty Flournoy-Smith was jailed late Friday night on a misdemeanor charge of filing a false report of a crime.Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs tight end filed a police report with the school claiming that his textbooks had been stolen. Upon further review, police determined that Flournoy-Smith's books hadn't in fact been stolen, but rather he already sold them back to a local bookstore, instead.“He went through this whole story of his books being stolen,” UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson said. “We started looking into it and it was determined that the books were not stolen. He had taken his own books down to a local book buying company and sold them back to them.Once it was determined the books had never been stolen, that he had actually sold them for money for himself, that’s when we took out a warrant for filing a false police report,” Williamson said.Flournoy-Smith immediately turned himself into police after receiving word of the warrant. He was booked into the Clark County jail around 11:00 p.m. and was released two hours later on a $1,000 bond.“As long as I’ve ever worked for the University of Georgia police, if somebody files a report of any crime and we designate resources to look into it and we conclude that these people knowingly falsely filed a report then we’ll prosecute, we’ll take out a warrant for filing a false report,” Williamson said.Georgia head coach Mark Richt is aware of the incident, but has yet to hand down any sort of discipline.Flournoy-Smith appeared in eight games last season as a freshman and is a product of Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia.Via The Augusta Chronicle
