Dr. Saturday:
• Bearcats have good news and they have bad news. Cincinnati's 34-17 win at South Florida Thursday night was not only a nationally-televised road win that secures the Bearcats at the top of the Big East and furthers their incursion into the top 10 in the polls -- it was also a refutation of any notion that UC is a one-man team. Star quarterback Tony Pike had by far his worst statistical effort of the season in the first half, left a close game early in the third quarter and yielded to an inexperienced backup with a very different style in a tough environment. Yet Cincinatti still managed to adjust the offense to Zach Collaros' athleticism, consistently hounded USF quarterback B.J. Daniels into wild, ineffectual scrambles and ultimately outscored the Bulls 17-7 without Pike, a mark of just how far ahead of the rest of the Big East the 'Cats are at the moment.
It was an encouraging response, all in all, especially considering that Pike may not be around for awhile aft...
